Rant on Relativism and ToleranceFair enough. I actually agree with the points you made to an extent. I feel that where i live (the UK)we are generally told to accommodate other cultures which are coming into our country at the expense of our own national identity and I feel that this is a problem with our society. Whilst I do the see the benefits of a multicultural society and feel that we should be tolerant of others we should not do so at the expense of our own culture. So on the being tolerant to other cultures side of things I can see your point. (view post) |

Rant on Relativism and ToleranceTo be fair there are other ethical systems which are just as bad if not worse than moral relativism when put into practice. For example utilitarianism which is based around making the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people. While in theory this looks good it can allow some pretty horrific things to happen. for example if the majority of a country’s population decided they wanted to wipe out a minority group then that would be morally just under utilitarianism. Therefore if you follow this theory you could support Germany’s actions in the second world war in the holocaust. So moral relativism isn’t too bad if you compare it too utilitarianism. (view post) |
