I’d say pbum on Quake, it’s not a very good game and was only popular back in the day because of “zomg 3D”. Quake and to a greater extent Hexen II are the two main reasons I hadn’t played a FPS until I bought TF2 late last year.

I would recommend trying out Heretic and/or Hexen though.

Both lovely games.

Try Red Faction too. I wonder if you can find it though.
