It’s always fun at the start of voting, to see how many people found the exact same relevant image on the first page of google image search. Sometimes they crop it differently, but it’s still very obvious. Unless it’s a really good image, that could only have been made worse by editing, I’d downvote that kind of thing.

For my own subs, I always try to edit from the starting point at least a little bit. My 100 Power Stars sub started from of a screenshot from the game, but the star in that was too pixellated (so in the final image the screenshot just supplied the halo effect, the little stars and the coloured rays coming out from the centre) the stars are copies of a much better picture of the mario star, copied and resized and aligned (roughly) along some perspective lines I drew on a layer above.
