Listen to the guy if you need to cite sources, or need accurate details. In which case you check the sources that Wikipedia should have cited and decide whether they’re reliable or not.

For getting the broad scope of something though, Wikipedia is normally a highly convenient and mostly fairly accurate summary. Don’t trust it absolutely, but don’t trust any other resource absolutely either.
