I think my main problem is the time window is just too large. I could sit down with the idea that the round might finish any time within the next, say, hour or 2. That might add some tension to the game. Longer than that, no.

It might also be an idea to have a (say) 2 / 5 / 10 minute warning about the bracket ending rather than a straight cut-off.
