What’s your opinion on the recent protests against the Olympics in China?

Protesting and boycotting never did **** at the olympics…

I still think there should be a boycott, but eh, it’s not going to make a blind bit of ****ing difference.

People who suddenly after 50 years woke up and realised about the situation in Tibet are only annoyance, rather than reasonable protesters.

i don’t get it. it’s not a ‘reasonable protest’ because they didn’t protest about it in the past? don’t see how that’s relevant.

Most of the protesters are being belligerent/violent, plus a lot of them seem to be motivated by all kinds of weird anti-communist stuff.

I do get what was said before, though. Protesting the olympics rarely does much good, for the same reason protests at the Super Bowl are ineffective- folks think you’re dissing the meaningless event they’ve decided is important.

Maybe that’s a bit too harsh. Anyways, not all the protesters are a problem, but only the ones that make problems get on the news.

Really, though- it’s hugely ironic that the torch needs an armed paramilitary escort, isn’t it? With the route switches and all?

there’s not much to get, china invaded tibet and overthrew an oppressive theocracy only to put tibet into an oppressive semi-colonial maoist state. people who think they were better off with the dalai-llama don’t know anything.

i think this is excellent. there was this chinese **** on tv the other day trying to take the moral high ground by condemning the protests, it was great. I hope there’s a dedication ceremony boycott, I just hate the chinese government so much and I’d love to see their press reps squirm in front of the cameras.

I’m all for the protests. Honestly, I don’t give a damn about Tibet. But anything that hinders a brutal totalitarian dictatorship with its eyes on superpower status is good in my book. So, yeah, free Tibet. Actually, never mind Tibet. Free China.

What about a wanna-be brutal totalitarian dictatorship with superpower status? Forget China, free America.

Honestly, though, they’ve been showing the protests over Tibet for more than 10 years now. It hasn’t changed anything, nor will it ever change anything. Not until the powers-that-be decide that human rights are more important than cheap goods. And at least here in America, that will not happen anytime soon.
