I’m not a freaking believer, I don’t follow any random belief about this but… Damn, what the **** is happening to our planet?!

I’m following a profile in twitter named “porque2012”, or “why2012”. And every single ****ing day it’s a new tremor around the world, or more than one. Tsunamis, shortening of days and stuff like that.

As I’ve stated earlier, I don’t believe in Mayan prophecies or whatsoever (Planet X theory is a little hillarious, btw), but this chain of events is kinda putting me insane.

Will we watch the end of this little planet? How do you feel about all of this?

tl;dr: End of world, what do you expect?

Don’t panic yet though. How long were you following them with nothing happening? My guess is not long if at all. Little tremors happen all the time afaik

Chawin, I know that tremors are something usual, but the currency of the strong ones it’s a little weird for me, see? That’s just… TOO chaotic for me…

It’s still not the record one though, and in the end, and we develop technology further, we simply are able to actually find and measure them more accurately and more often.

On top of that, all the bad stuff is simply reported more widely. It’s not that kids are kidnapped every day but I’ll hear about a missing girl from 2000 miles away for 3 weeks.

The media gets more viewers when there are tragedies so they will be more reported, don’t let overexposure get to you and freak you out.

There’s basically an earthquake on the sea floor at any given time, plus tectonic movement at any shelf 24/7. **** happens. It’s always happened, and it’ll continue to happen.

Just my two euro cents, but…

“This little planet” is kind of hard to destroy. Earthquakes, tsunamis and all that are part of the nature of the planet, and are doing it no harm whatsoever. Shortening of days by, oooh, whole microseconds is about as meaningful as the fact that the distance to the moon lengthens by a few centimeters each year. It has been happening all along, and it will still be happening when humanity is nothing but a long-extinct species nobody cares about even if there is someone around to potentially care about something.

Even if the climate goes wonky, all land sinks into the sea and there’s 40 years of constant winter, that still wouldn’t even seriously threaten the existence of life on Earth, much less the actual planet. Anything big enough to take the planet out would be pretty damn big and we probably would have seen it coming.

We humans may well all die, though I don’t think it particularly likely either, but there’s nothing going on that would threaten the planet in any meaningful way.

Nah, checked it and the distance was actually increasing not decreasing at a meaningless rate. Editing to correct.

Ask me about how many male reproductive organs in my bum :zak:

Uhm, we just had a huge earthquake here in Chile, I’m sure you knew that, which is something very common since we’re a seismic country and just have earthquakes every once in a while, and all those tremors are very normal, specially after such a big quake. Things are happening in other parts of the world because of this earthquake, so it’s all very connected. I’m p sure everything in that page talks about Chile and places connected to Chile through tectonic plates.

I would worry if there were different things with no relation between them going on, but really, this are the normal things that happen after something this big.

I actually thought this might be happening earlier today. But it’s probably just that the plates constant shifting, and tremors could influence other tremors. Does that sound sciency enough? Yeah, I think it does. Perhaps.

Because it is so topical: Majora’s Mask is probably the best game ever made.

Smart money’s on us being extinct long before the moon has anything to do with it.

If we do survive long enough for the increased distance of the moon to be a problem, we’ll hopefully have come up with a way to go somewhere else by then.

Either way, everyone alive today will be long dead before it becomes an issue Log in to see images!

No, but the Chile earthquake apparently did shorten the Earth’s day.
