Depends on whether the question is P(bacon or (hamburger and mushrooms)) or P((bacon or hamburger) and mushrooms)

We can see from the picture that bacon and hamburger are on the same dice, and I’m going to bumume each thing is only one side of one dice (so no repeats on the sides we can’t see).

First option – the probability of getting either bacon-and-whatever or (hamburger and mushrooms) will be 1/6 + (1/6 * 1/6) = 7/36

Second option – the probability of getting either bacon or hamburger, and mushrooms will be 2/6 * 1/6 = 2/36

———

Easy way to see this is right – consider all the possible pizzas; 36 of them, one for each combination of the 6 sides of 1 dice with the 6 sides of the other.

6 of them will have bacon, and 1 will have hamburger and mushrooms, so 7/36 for that way of reading it.

1 will have bacon and mushrooms, 1 will have hamburger and mushrooms, so 2/36 for the other interpretation.

I’m basically trying to determine if someone can use a roll of two dice to determine fairly between outcomes, by bumigning the result of odd to one choice, and even to another choice.

Yes you can. Here’s another way to think about it:

Chances one dice even: 0.5

Chances one dice odd: 0.5

So there are four possible outcomes:

Both dices even (adds to even): 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25

Both dices odd (adds to even): 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25

First dice even, second odd (adds to odd): 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25

First dice odd, first even (adds to odd): 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25

So adding up the probabilities:

even: 0.25 + 0.25 = 0.5

odd: 0.25 + 0.25 = 0.5

I think everyone is already clear on this, but the reason 2&1 and 1&2 are counted as “different” is because, compared to a value like 1&1, it happens twice as often. Therefore you must count is as two separate values, even though they add up to the same value.

Rolling dice, and the odds of any given set of numbers coming up. When actually rolling dice, there is no difference between 1+2 and 2+1, they are not unique. The only possible difference, with respect to actually rolling dice, is the orientation of the person reading the dice to the dice themselves.

Except you’re an idiot. A 1 on the first die and a 2 on the 2nd is different than a 2 on the 1st die and a 1 on the 2nd. 2 unique ways to get 1+2 etc etc don’t try to make people who actually know what they’re talking about look wrong etc etc.

Good poster, upvoted. Also loves juicy balls (no homo).

Sneaky27, go grab two dice, throw them around for a couple hours, and record the results.

11 – 2/36 (5 & 6, 6 & 5)

12 – 1/36 (6 & 6)

That’s 18/36 for even, and 18/36 for odds, so it’s a more complicated coin flip, basically.

Simple and to the point. Thx Ricket.
