Debate Lockerz Is A Scam: Common Sense To Help You See It

Lockerz is such a scam. Has anyone here heard of pyramid schemes before? The only way that you can use Lockerz in this “beta” mode is if there is someone else that invites you. Supposedly, there’s nothing to be gained by the person inviting you. This is something I severely doubt, as in there would be no reason as to why they would take the extra time out of their days just to invite someone else randomly into the community. There’s only the currency known as “PTZ” (a crappy, tween-like way to describe the word “points”Log in to see images! that is used to buy things. The amount of PTZ needed to purchase any item is exorbitantly high, and will continue to increase as time goes on. Theoretically, there is a time when items will be “sold” on Lockerz for actual currency, with the PTZ system still in place. This is because after they get plenty of e-mail information to spam your life with crappy adds, they’ll just want to get rid of their stock of second-tier electronic and clothing prizes.

It’s all too easy to see what demographic Lockerz is targeted at: teenagers with too much time and their parent’s money on their hands. The prizes are what? Second-tier video games? Designer clothes? WTF, how about something useful?

It’s been claimed that Lockerz takes only a few minutes each day. But little does anyone using Lockerz know, there is nothing that prevents them from selling your e-mail and marketing information. Want to know why they’re having you take all of those product surveys? Well, it’s so that they can pick out the most oh-so-perfect category of spam to flood your e-mail with; products that they think you’d like to purchase. Claim that there’s nothing in the contract about them having the right to “sell” your information? Well how about this: shady companies have been known to “share” or exchange” client information so that they could have a better demographic for to spam their product adds yet. Haven’t received any spam yet? Just wait…

Internet Rule No. 1 is arguably that you SHOULD NOT give out ANY personal information about yourself to ANY company that just promises you “PTZ”. I have a much better alternative to getting PTZ to pay for second-hand crap with:

GET A JOB

Yes, I know, I know….some of that seems “harsh”, but understand, that when you make IRL money, you can spend it one anything, not just ****ty bottom barrel prizes. Food, housing, put it in a bank account…and the catch? There are more laws in place in the job world that will protect your information given to employers than any of the ambiguous laws that apply to online activities (especially since Lockerz claims to be a world-wide “business”Log in to see images!.

If you spend FIVE MINUTES looking online about Lockerz scamming you, would will find hundreds of websites and forums all talking about how terrible Lockerz is. Now, I’ll admit, you can find someone saying something bad about ANYTHING online (such as windows versus Mac argument). However the major differences is where are all of the Lockerz supporters? The official BBB web pages about what good business practices the “company” running it has? Anything at all that’s not sponsored by Lockerz? No. All you see are adds on Facebook and Myspace and 4chan, all places that, if you’re not careful, are breeding grounds for phishers and e-mail spammers.

In conclusion, this is no different from the door-to-door pyramid schemes of past, now evolved to adapt with the next generation of online users. If someone came to your door and asked you to push their diet pills at no real cost of your own, for a “currency” that couldn’t be used in the real world, and you needed to provide information about yourself and product preferences before hand, would you do it?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

I wouldn’t call the daily questions “surveys,” but other than that, thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Even the sites that make you fill out offers to get free **** are better than this. At least with those sites you can use Roboform and get what you want in one afternoon.

Stuff like “Which do you like better” and “DO you like twilight”? Come on. This is obviously a scam aimed at spamfloods.

I found a way to profit from Lockerz. I gave them fake information, in exchange for which I received a BP for helping someone else get some stupid ptz. Log in to see images!

I’m pretty sure a lot of people do that.

I always did that when there were stupid sign-up things for me to do.

Whenever I expect something to send me more email than I want, but I also might need to respond to one email from them (account confirmations and the like) I give them a gmail address that exists solely as a spam reactor.

It’s actually set to forward to my hotmail (so that I can use it for things that I do want to receive mail from, but don’t want to give my main email to) but there’s a set of filter rules for what gets forwarded and what doesn’t. Makes use of how you can send mail to myusername+whatever@gmail.com and it’ll find its way myusername@gmail.com – then you can use the +whatever in a filter rule.

Either give out emails in the form myusername+theirname@gmail, so you know who gave your address to spammers and can block accordingly, or (as I do) have a standard “don’t forward it” filter for the ones where you know there’s going to be spam.

Unfortunately my hotmail seems to still be on a few lists for viagra-spam and camwhore-spam, but compared to the crap hitting the spam box on that gmail it’s pretty tame.

And re-sticky because it’s the ****ing truth.

Lets face it, nobody likes being marketed to, especially during their free time on the Internet. Why do these websites exist other than to get idiots onto forums going “OMGOMGOMG I AM GETTING A FREE PS3 LOL SIGN UP NAO” and throw other people into this endless cycle of complete bull****? Get a job and a life you bumholes. If something is too good to be true then it probably is.

EDIT: This is not a troll post, it’s just exactly how I feel.

There’s also no reason to keep you as a mod, but we do anyway.

Sticking this thread wouldn’t hurt anyone, maybe except your ego.

Slow down, Frannie. We don’t want another Lockerz thread to be moved to CoS.

It’s a good post by DerKaiserReich and nearly everything about Lockerz was said, so why give it even more attention by stickying it?

It’s good awareness, and people usually don’t notice it.

I made my sister give up on Lockerz. Log in to see images!
