itembuildr thumbnails: this bothers me a lot.

I submit an image for today’s item and I just noticed that the 50x50 thumbnail image is just a reduced version of the 200x200 image.
Why isn’t there an option to submit a 50x50 thumbnail, or simply an option to crop the image to make the thumbnail? My image looks awful with a simple 50x50 reduction, and I believe being able to crop the image would increase the quality of my submission overall. At a 50x50 size, you can barely see the image.
Some items are cropped instead of simply reduced (the Laundry Cat junk comes to mind, I don’t have the 200x200 version but look at the 50x50: Log in to see images! |

I got a better example, the Pirate Flag junk (it’s on Ppwn Shoppe today, I didn’t have a 200x200 version of the Laundry Cat picture).

The 50x50 is a cropped version of the image, where the author cropped the flag stem, whereas on it’s 200x200 version you can see everything. Simply reducing the original 200x200 image to a 50x50 image would make it almost impossible to distinguish the flag as a pirate flag. |

100% agree. Simple radio bumon defaulted to “resize image for me” or “upload my own thumbnail”.
I guess the only “problem” this could present is the author uploading unrelated thumbnails, but that’s not really a problem since there is a voting process. |
