The census story does not make a vast deal of sense… having everyone go to their home town to be counted? Log in to see images! I dunno, just seems like that might cause some disruption in a time before modern transportation. But if I recall correctly there was some prophecy or other about where the messiah would be born, so whoever wrote the gospels needed a reason for them to go there… and the rest is “history”. |

Keep in mind that this is during the height of power for the Roman Empire.
A complete census isn’t out of the question for an ancient civilization that powerful and well-organized. Jesus was actually a Roman citizen. |
