On this side of the Atlantic, Channel 4 at 10:35pm is something from Derren Brown
... actually that’s pretty cool, now I need to go watch that.

E: Looking at the description, what you said makes way too much sense for this show to not be what you were talking about. Anyway, thanks for the reminder. Anonymous edited this message on 09/09/2009 5:23PM Anonymous

Split screen, pliable bumistant, magic marker/a **** ton of preprepared balls. Notice how the screen stops shaking before the ‘reveal’? a previous shot is overlayed onto the left side of the screen so that nobody notices the guy frantically fiddling with Derren Brown balls, while Derrne Brown mumbles on about how ****ing fantastic he is, and that his house is entirely constructed with those 5 numbers. And what about the fact that nobody was in the studio audience?
Yeah. Derren Brown is a shameless media whore. Anonymous edited this message on 09/13/2009 12:51PM Anonymous

The real trick there was convincing people that he did it via numerology/”crowd wisdom”/machine fixing.
I’ve seen the Youtube stuff about splitscreening, seems pretty convincing. Just a shame that he’d drop to the level of camera trickery. Might be able to justify it as part of the larger psychological trick of fooling people about how he did it, and the whole thing made pretty good television, but there’s nothing really special happened here.
The camera shake didn’t look all that natural, seemed like it might be computer generated shaking within a wider-scoped shot from a steady tripod. That way it seems more authentic and looks harder to fake, but lets them freeze half of the screen without any syncing difficulties. Anonymous
