If he is beyond human comprehension, how do you know that? Further, how do you know he exists? Also, how do you know he created the universe? |

Faith is the belief in something that cannot be known. You cannot battle faith with logic. If you want to win this, you’ll have to find another tactic. |

I put forth that one cannot believe in something they don’t understand.
Furthermore, I posit that logic is the only shield with which to defend against faith. |

I do not UNDERSTAND Quantum Physics, but I do believe in it. Same with the hype peopel continue to make over American Idol. I just don’t get it. But I believe in it, too. Just because you don’t understand something it doesn’t mean you can’t believe in it. Besides, who are you to say whether or not someone understands God/the concept of a God?
Your logic appears to be a fallacy. Do you have anything better? |

You could gain a fair understanding of its premises if you took the time to study it.
Fingerz Posted:
Totally different variety of belief. We can agree that American Idol exists, and failing that, we can conclusively demonstrate that it exists.
Fingerz Posted:
I’m not so sure. See if you understand the following: Asjdajh, sdfisuhdewerwe. Urfngjzkdrfgs, faubfaerf, and I irehfserfosaerf.
Do you believe it?
Fingerz Posted:
I’m not saying that, I’m asking it.

Sergeant Cid Posted:Invalid question. Only something can exist. It cannot have any origin. Yours is a re-wording of “why something rather than nothing”, which forgets that nothing is a contradistinctory, rather than ontological, concept. |

Moniker Posted: I think a clearer statement would be that it’s impossible to believe in an incomprehensible concept, because you don’t know what it is that you’re believing in unless you comprehend it.
It’s like a triangle with 4 sides – you can’t imagine it or believe that it exists because the concept is inherently contradictory and hence incomprehensible.
If that was not what you meant, then never mind… although I still think this is a valid point too. |

As to the OP: I already destroyed it by noting the fallacy therein. You might want to take note of that.

I’m making no bumumptions. However, if someone understands something, they ought to be able to explain it to me. If they cannot, I’m perfectly well within my rights to say so. Do you disagree?
