Environment protection is a global topic, you can’t fade out all countries but Germany here. What’s the point in closing down all nuclear power plants if the surrounding countries then build new ones to sell that energy to Germany?! Germany already is one of the leaders in clean energy – and things would have been looking even better if there would be less subventions by the government because they made the German companies become uncompetitive on an international level… soon our clean energy technology will come from China as well. Subventions are important, but they should be reasonable. The current solar subventions aren’t reasonable.

That’s not an argument. Just because (mostly) Eastern European countries build new nuclear power plants, we don’t have to do it either. I wonder where they plan to deposit all the toxic waste. Oleg might me interested in a dependence on Russia and their uranium, I’m not.

But the subventions for archaic and polluting coal mining are?

Do you seriously think I support subventions for coal mining? rofl. Log in to see images! In case you didn’t know: It’s the left-wing parties who want to continue the subventions while especially the FDP clearly stated that they want to get rid of them asap.

Also noone talks about building new nuclear power plants or anything – they are going to be shut off soon enough, but it’s definitely better to secure a complete substitution of this energy (preferably through regenerative energy, not through stupid coal, which would be the result of the plans of the Green party). It’s all about getting rid of nuclear energy in a reasonable way and in cooperation with the EU to make sure that everyone around here has similar plans – Eastern Europe isn’t an issue here, but at least France, Poland, Czech etc. should be on the same side. Also we already have all that waste, it’s just about getting more of it. We stil have to get rid of everything we have now.

The Green Party does not support coal subventions, by not supporting renewable energy as much as needed and still relying on nuclear power, you do support coal.

At the moment they are talking about building new plants, but that might change. European Conservatives sure like the idea of a lifetime extension for nuclear plants. I would be worried less if all plants had high security standards like in Germany, but they don’t and even our plants have breakdowns. Get rid of this atomic **** as soon as possible! There is no realistic souklution to the waste problem yet and we just can’t send it to the moon either.

First of all, we actually could send it to the moon, the only problem is that the transport is too dangerous and too expensive.

Other than that, I don’t agree that supporting nuclear power has a direct relation to supporting coal. There would definitely be a higher demand for coal if you shut down all nuclear power plants too soon and the Greens aren’t capable of changing that. Yet my main concern is that it’s about time to stop burning money for a hilariously useless industry just to employ some random Hartz 4 fabulous persons. And both SPD and die Linke are in favor of coal subventions. Sidenote: LINK.

I guess we both agree that nuclear power is especially an important topic for the EU parliament because there’s much more that has to be done there. And this is one of the reasons I don’t think that environment protection is the super topic of this election, and this is why I conclude that voting for the left-wing parties is lame. I focus on economy and education, and that’s where the FDP has the best concepts. Same applies for their vision of a ‘Bürgergeld’ welfare system even though I think that the amount of money should be higher than they want it to be.

It has. By supporting longer lifetimes of nuclear plants, we slow down engineering progress of other energy sources. My honest wish would be to put lots of money into nuclear fusion researsh than the EU does now.

Especially as a European Union, we could do so much more with guidelines for an ordered retreat from nuclear energy with an impact on the worldwide energy situation. In Germany, we even produce more energy than we can use. Encironment wasn’t the main topic, because for a couple of years, all parties are preferring so called “Umweltbewusstsein”, cause it sounds good and right to everybody. But the concepts behind those phrases differ a lot. Why is it lame to vote for left-wing parties? Compared to earlier times, the CDU could almost be called a left-wing party by now since Merkel took over and had to form a “Große Koalition”.

That’s your point of view, but I wonder where your FDP will take the money from to give us promised tax cuts. The concept is older than we both, Ronald Reagan said, tax cuts will generate a economical increase that finances itself – but that has never worked in history, it’s just “marktradikales Gewäsch”.

Not to mention Westerwelle’s embarrasing press conference, he wants to be our Secretary of State and is not willing to answer an English question to a BBC reporter Log in to see images!
