What is Heavy Metal? Is probably the question swimming in the minds of certain unenlightened members here. The movie can best be described as this:

Violence, sex, drugs, and rock and roll all wrapped up in a fantasy/sci-fi setting.

If that doesn’t sound awesome, then please see a doctor, there is something wrong with you. The plot goes like this:

An astronaut returns to Earth in a 1960 corvette, bringing a glowing green orb as a gift for his daughter. The orb, known as the Loc-Nar, proceeds to melt the astronaut, and and show the girl how its evil influences. This is the premise that links the six subsequent stories together. There’s Harry Canyon, the story of how a taxi driver in the future New York is brought into a web of crime and greed over the Loc-Nar, after rescuing the daughter of the archeologist who discovered it. Then there’s Den, a story about a nerd who is zapped into another dimension by the Loc-Nar, where he becomes a muscular giant and must save a woman from being sacrificed. Next comes Captain Sternn, where a notorious criminal bribes a man into giving a favorable testimony, but everything goes wrong thanks to the meddling of the Loc-Nar. Then B-17 rolls in, in which the Loc-Nar transforms the dead crew of a B-17 bomber into murderous zombies. So Beautiful So Dangerous is the next story, where a woman is abducted by aliens during a Pentagon meeting. Finally, there is the story Tanara, which is arguably the best. The Loc-Nar (now giant) crashes into a planet and transforms the local tribe into violent Mutants, who then go on a rampage, slaughtering all in a city. The council of the city summon the warrior woman Tanara, last of the Tarakian race, who then who goes on a mission to avenge the city and honor the pact made long ago. As a brief mention, there is a cut segment known as Neverwhere Land (possible to see on DVD version), which words can do no justice.

What also makes the movie great, is the use of songs from various rock bands and singers, which really adds to some moments. These include: Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Cheap Trick, Don Feldar, Stevie Nicks, and more.
