How it is calculated, precisely?

And successful itembuildr submission counts? More or less than forum buildr submissions?

There is a score difference from images and ideas in itembuildr?

Boo!

I don’t think itembuildr affects your builr score.

I haven't seen a bad idea that I didn't like.

Itembuildr does not affect buildr score.

The calculation for score goes like this:

There are three variables: submissions, submissions that get accepted into the forum, and submissions that get -5’d without any upvotes.

If you submit anything and it isn’t downvoted to -5 without receiving upvotes, you get +1 score for the week.

If you get even 1 submission into the forum and nothing gets -5’d with no upvotes, you get +2.

In order to lose score you must have at least one more -5 with no votes than you do submissions that get in.

I don’t think it works that way because last week i had one -5 with no upvotes and no submissions in.

It depends which categories you enter, really. Some are very prone to downvoting, like forum ideas.

Well, let me put it this way: How does one get an actual negative weekly result, more or less a -2? You can get a guaranteed +1 every week if you want it, it seems you have to really go out on a limb to get just -1. Perhaps I’m misreading.

It’s pretty easy to get a negative weekly result, actually. I think it much more depends on your vote total (add the value of your entries that are in the positive to your -5s), and if you are in the negative, as many of us were this past week, your buildr score goes down. Shii’s explanation of what works doesn’t jibe with my experience, honestly.

ditto. My experience says that it’s essentially proportional to your upvotes minus your downvotes. As long as your overall balance is in the positive at the end of the week, you’ll be fine.

You didn’t lose any score because you had the +1 from your submissions that didn’t make it in.

I’m 100% positive this is how it works, because when I was going for Enemy peen, I would routinely have 20+ get downvoted to -5. However, since none of them were -5 with no upvotes, the single submission I usually got in during that time was sufficient to give me my +2.

Without seeing the actual code for how it works, you’re making an educated guess. You may be 100% sure, but I don’t think you’re right. There are also other possible scenarios: you can increase your buildr score by 2 even if you don’t get anything in the forum at all. You can increase it by 1 if you get nothing in the forum. This can happen regardless of whether your dead entries got any upvotes. In my experience, it depends on your ratio of upvotes to downvotes or just a simple calculation of final positive score minus the negatives. I would bet that an average score is calculated each week and that your score increase depends on how far away from the mean you are (modified by whether you get anything into the forum).

You can get +2 without getting anything into the forum? I’ve never seen that happen and I’ve not heard of it happening, but if it does then I don’t know how to explain it.

As far as the +1, you get that by virtue of just submitting something that doesn’t get downvoted to -5 without any upvotes.

It happens to me all the time.

No, again, I’ve had things go to -5 without any upvotes, not get anything in the forum, and still increase by +1.

It’s not really weird. Not everybody submits stuff into forum categories other than forum ideas. How do you expect people’s buildr scores to increase (and they do) if they only submit forum ideas? Your total score. Add up your upvotes and downvotes.

Ah, I guess that’s true.

Since I’m really poor at Forum Ideas almost all my submissions go to the forums themselves.

I suppose I’m prejudiced. I haven’t gotten a negative modifier on my score since I started buildr. I don’t have any idea how it calculates, but even the week where I decided not to play, and skipped submitting until six hours before the deadline (hoping for a quick choco boost for dom), I got +1. Nothing received even 5 upvotes before the round was over. Admittedly, one of the last-minute submissions made it into the forum, with like 4 votes to its name.

Has anyone got fairly complete recollections about how their submissions looked on weeks they got a -1 or a -2? Maybe we could narrow in on the algorithm.

got a -1 on a week where I had a few entries with approx +10/-15

I’ve gotten -1’s a few times, when I was submitting forum ideas. Every time it happened to me, it was because I had far more -5’s with no upvotes than I did submissions that made it into the forum.

This past week, I think I had about 90 submissions at -5. I had a few do very well, but there was no way for them to get enough upvotes to counter all the total downvotes.

I have intentionally decreased my buildr score in the past, simply by submitting enemies and watching them tank and then not submitting anything else.

If you don’t submit anything all week, an easy way to increase your score by +1 is to simply make a bunch of submissions before the end. As long as you remain in the positive (even if each has only your 1 upvote), my experience is that your score will increase by +1.
