Chaos is only evil in the sense that humans try to impart order on their little corner of the cosmos. Since we’ve come to depend on order in our lives, the universe’s natural infringement on that order is seen as a destructive and evil force.

Of course, order is an illusion, just small and twisted minds trying to make sense and organization out of the rampant chaos around us. This, chaos is life, so is life evil?

Order on a large scale is an illusion, yes. But on the much smaller scale of earth’s life, there is an order imparted. Even outside of humans, organization and ranks within the ecosystem are established through the time-honored “survival of the fittest” method.

Of course, this is all bumuming that chaos isn’t just something with an arbitrarily complex pattern. In that case, chaos would be the illusion, so to speak.

Using that logic, everything is an illusion. Of course, as I stated in an earlier thread, reality is a series of altered and limited perceptions, and thus is, indeed, a series of illusions, each different to each individual.

I suppose it depends on your definition of illusion. You see, when I hear the word, I think of it in the sense of smoke and mirrors. You are perceiving objects and events which do not actually occur. On the other hand, what we perceive is normally there. It is only when we exceed, knowingly or unknowingly, the limits of our perceptions, that we find illusion. Based on this, I don’t think that the illusion lies within all the universe but our attempts to exceed our limits of perception.

Illusion is not only seeing something that is not there, it could also not be seeing something that is indeed there. The illusion of reality is not a simple series of parlor tricks, but the idea behind the stage magic of Las Vegas and many street magicians is the ability to warp these illusions further, or perhaps to dispel them. Magic is an alteration of perception, from simple glamers to the conjuration of solid objects from nothingness.

Either that, or sleight of hand.
