Or, more simply, a vote minimum. Nothing can be eliminated until it gets some realistic number of votes. Then, the percentage kicks in.

Yet, it’s more than a lot of people seem interested in voting on and we are still eliminating things.
We don’t vote on most of forumbuildr, because much of it is bad, it gets boring quickly, and there is a lot of it. If there was more crap, we would vote less. |

Can something like this be implemented, please? It took 3:30 for every image and idea to be voted down to -5 today. |

Maybe downvoting just needs to be eliminated in itembuildr until some other voting system is implemented. |

I sort of disagree, there are some very terrible submissions every voting day, and elimination just helps get rid of the crap.
Unfortunately, elimination is just being abused by a lot of people at the moment.
Some sort of threshold needs to be added to elimination to prevent all of it from being eliminated. Maybe make it so that once only 10 submissions are left, those 10 submissions can not be removed because of a -5 vote…that would actually work out well. |

No, it wouldn’t. It would randomly select the last ten things to get mbumively downvoted.
Any system that relies on “Just keep the one that’s holding out at -4” leads to crap and random chance. There needs to be a sustainable, logical system for downvoting eliminating an idea, if it’s going to exist at all.
I still think Itembuildr would be better served at an item every week, one submission per player, and no downvoting, for the time being. |

Ok, but flat out eliminating downvoting wouldn’t be the answer. all you’d end up with is mbumive spam voting, with nothing to counter it.
Now, eliminating elimination…that could work. |

Except voting “Pbum” obsessively doesn’t actively cancel out the people who honestly upvote a good idea, the way downvoting does.
Spam-upvoting a bad idea is just as possible now as it would be without downvoting, and if the worst someone can do is add a vote to a bad idea and ignore the rest, hopefully the damage wouldn’t be too great.
In the stickied thread on fixing itembuildr that people are now ignoring, I mentioned the idea of letting people vote on -5’d ideas, but, in retrospect, it’s just not a feasible solution. |

Spam downvoting doesn’t override honest votes, it overrides spam upvoting. |

... you REALLY think as many people are upvoting everything for the lulz as are downvoting everything for the lulz/out of spite/out of the misguided belief it helps the odds for their own crappy submission? |

No, when i say spamvoting, i’m talking about the days that 10 or so submissions never get eliminated, and one person gets their goons to upvote their submissions and/or make multiple accounts to upvote their own stuff/downvote everything else. usually occurs when you see just one submission 10-15 votes ahead of second place |

So… a problem that A) would be avoided voting by player, as I mentioned and a problem that B) is pretty much unable to be avoided?
How does locking the ten randomly last-downvoted entries solve either of these? |

It wouldn’t, but neither would elminating down voting.
the 10 locked was just to prevent 100% idea elimination on a daily basis. |

Which removing downvoting would also do. So… tie game, I suppose, by your criteria. |

Here Samildanach, THIS is what i’m talking about. about 8 or 9 submissions were all pretty even for the first 5-6 hours, all between 5-10 points (the one with 10 points was actually eliminated, and it was one of the few good ones)
this is what happens when bumholes are on the loose at 2am. |

And… you don’t think that’s the result of a concerted effort? You think a bunch of people all chose to randomly spam upvote that one particular entry? It wasn’t even the crappiest entry I saw.
If by “spam upvoting” you actually meant a coordinated effort to rig the election… You can’t really stop male reproductive organheads from upvoting crappy ideas and still allow voting. The rules may say there’s no collusion or klan voting, but someone is always going to be trying to get around it, and no real way to stop them.
You can, however, stop them from essentially doubling their impact by upvoting their target and downvoting all the competitors. Again, if suggestions can’t be eliminated, they can’t trash the whole thing to get their choice canonized or just screw the system.
If the worst they can do is equivalent to not voting at all, disrupting the process is a lot harder. |
