Itembuilder weighted system - **** mbumive up/down voting! | |||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
While i’ve only been using itembuildr for 5 or 6 days, i can tell the system needs some tweaks, due to some terrible submissions lately. Basically, the theory here is that IF an individual is using multiple accounts and/or having their friends vote for them; or people are doing the same thing to downvote the most popular submissions to raise their own…
They will have a higher total vote count. this makes sense, because the submissions with less spam votes will typically only have real votes, due to being overlooked/at the bottom of the list.
To counter spam voting, we could have a percent based weight system. indicated by:
p = Positive votes n = Negative votes s = Vote Score t = Total x = Percent based score
[p – -1(n) = s] [P + -1(n) = t] [100(s/t) = x]
Example: Lets say there are two ideas/pics on voting day, one with a score of 21, the other with a score of 15. The one with the 21 has a lot of spam votes, both up and down; it has 91 up, and -70 down.
[91 – -1(-70) = 21] [91 + -1(-70) = 161] [100(21/161) = 13.04% ] (positive votes)
Now, the submission with a score of 15 has far less spam votes. it has 61 positive votes, and -46 negative votes.
[61 – -1(-46) = 15] [61 + -1(-46) = 107] [100(15/107) = 14.02%] (positive votes)
With this system, The winner would go to the more honest submission, or at least the one with the least spam.
It could counter some of the spam voting that goes on…but definitely not all of it. |

Using percentages…... I approve. Actually that seems like the most fair way to approach voting. Reminds me of how youtube and video game ranking/voting works. |

Well, I think a better example of how and where this works best is ebay. I would trust a seller with 50,000 points and a 98% positive rating far more than i would with a seller who has 200,000 points and a 91% positive rating. **** just adds up. |

Seconded (Thirded, Fourth’d). In about 2 hours of itembuildr, there is only one submission left to vote upon, and its score is -3. I was told were a good number of funny submissions this round, but I didn’t get to see any of them. |

this would alleviate the problem. it’s impossible to cure unless u eliminate down voting, which won’t ever happen. upvoted |

I would doubt that the number of votes an entry receives significantly differs from the amount of votes that another sub receives. If you upvote an option, you’re going to vote on its competition just to be able to see how your picks are matching up against the others. |

I like this idea. I like it a lot.
Math and free online games about hacking and porn…who knew they went together? Er, other than the programmers, I mean. |

But, if we change the deletion point from -5 to a negative percentage, that means that the crap 2 upvote/10 downvote entries will disappear quickly, but the 60 upvote/65 downvote will still be there for people to see and vote on (and possibly win). It might take more downvotes to make crap disappear, but we have plenty of downvotes.
It would also be far more difficult to downvote everything until it’s gone and we have no entries left to win. Again. |

Well, the mbumive initial downvoting to eliminate the competition is also very annoying, and it needs some tweaks as well. If this system were to be implemented, i feel that a -30% rating would be the new thresh hold for eliminated entries.
But a problem arises; By this formula, a single negative vote would eliminate an entry. to solve this problem, we could have a 2 hour pure vote period. this is where all votes are counted, no eliminations at all, until that 2 hour mark. the ones that are at and below -30% would be instantly eliminated, while the ones that are at or above -29% would continue on, until they get below -30% again. which results in elimination.
Domination scoring would still remain the same though, seeing that it still uses the base values, a scoop for every 5 would still work. Craft Bond edited this message on 04/27/2009 1:48AM |

With the lack of entries in itembuildr, why eliminate entries at all? |

If you get on itembuildr right at 3pm eastern when it flips over from submit to voting, there are usually 60-100 ideas. people are lazy, and usually end up voting negative for all of them, and a good majority of them get eliminated pretty fast.
I sort of do a half-spam/half read thing. i just vote down all ideas that have ****ty titles or that are irrelevant, then read the ones with a good title, then vote depending on whether or not the description is funny/relevant/creative.
It’s really unfortunate that all of today’s submissions got eliminated, there were some REALLY good ones. i’d say i upvoted at least 70-80% of them. |
