North Korean launch of Taepodong-2 results in failure | |||||||

The command said that North Korea launched a Taepodong-2 missile at 11:30 a.m. Sunday local time, or 10:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, and that its first stage fell into the Sea of Japan, which analysts had expected as the point of splashdown in a successful launching.
I find it very interesting that the rocket failed, despite N. Korea proceeding with the launch. This was an obvious attempt from Il to take advantage of the US’s distractions in the middle east and attempt to power creep, but now he’s ended up with egg on his face. Adding injury to insult, it seems like Obama isn’t willing to back down, despite the launch’s failure:
“Rules must be binding,” he said. “Violations must be punished. Words must mean something.” Those words were added to the end of a long-planned arms control speech hours before, after the president was awakened at 4:30 a.m. by his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, with news of North Korea’s defiance. |
