This contest doesn’t change the fact that Resident Evil 5 was a ****ing disappointment (it was a good game, but the dev team fabulous personged it up with some really bad decisions).

Also, I want to know who the idiots were that thought hiding realistic, bloody body props in a such a major city was a good idea. This goes far and beyond the Aqua Teen stunt – it’s common sense not to hide something that looks like a dead person in a big city.

Half the major papers in the world are running this as a news story, and this is a poor decision?

The city of Boston was shut down for an entire day over something that vaguely-kinda-sorta-but-not-really looked like a bomb. Here, we’re talking about realistic body props, hidden in order to be well concealed, but in a way that they’re intended to be found.

Seriously, Resident Evil 5 is just surrounded by poor judgment. Controls designed around two-player co-op, racially insensitive images in the Marshlands chapters, and now whatever ad agency ‘genius’ cooked up this stunt.

I can agree with the whole controls based on co-op problem but Don’t even lie, fine upstanding member of societys in Africa are just like the ones found in the marshland chapter, did you expect them to be living in houses and driving cadillac’s?

Yes, because half-naked black men chasing anyone who comes near them with spears is the norm in Africa. Log in to see images!

Also, because spears, crocodiles, savagery, etc., were never used as hateful images towards black, it is not ethically questionable to use such images just to make a video game more exciting.

I will say that the Marshlands chapters are based on African culture, and that the Village Youth’s diary found in the village (which shows that the village had been civilized, and that the villagers retreated into a more primitive history) puts some of these images into context – but it’s too little, too late. It should’ve been introduced before you even see a villager, and it doesn’t completely justify every image used, such as the scene in the Execution Ground where a BSAA agent is hung and fed to a crocodile.

This being said, only a minority of players have been offended by the game, but the devs wouldn’t have had to sacrifice any game play related elements to pull back on the reigns a bit, and ensure that the insensitive images were kept to a minimum, so that NOBODY would be offended.

EDIT: I will say this – if there’s one thing I really, really love about RE5, it was the inclusion of equippable camera filters. You don’t see them used in very interesting ways these days, outside of porn, so seeing them used so well in a video game was really exciting. They were probably the only thing that justified multiple play-throughs for me.
