I thought this was going to be a way to address downvoting, and my mind suddenly went “DING!”

What if everyone was given only a number of votes equal to .5% of the total submissions? So this week we would have had only 12 or 13 votes. This pool would apply only to upvotes and downvotes, but you may pbum as many times as you want. That would mean you’d have to think about where to place your votes.

I like the function of score better myself.

edit- oh didn’t see your edit there, ya that would need to be implemented.

Adapt, I edited my idea before I saw your post to address that issue.

This also explains a lot. The ET one was not funny to me and I downvoted it. Seems like people’s ideas of “funny” are all over the board, and this may account for a lot of what we’ve seen.

I looked into the votes and it looks fairly legit. Out of 300+ players who voted on things, only a few really downvoted in a stupid way. (One dude was -260 vs +4), but even that one case can’t account for what we’re seeing.

The average person voted down more than they voted up. It could be related to the quality of entries, perhaps?

I think we should see it through and see what happens before we make any rash changes.

So people wait 6 hours to downvote. I don’t really see how this fixes anything.

edit- i guess pbuming would help to differentiate the good/bad ideas, but overall I think this just delays the inevitable

The worst part about it was that some of them were so awful with bad grammer and typos, Chinese characters, blank, or were not made to describe a video file, I was kind of happy that I didn’t have to see all of the bad ones as they were being weeded out as I was voting also.

One of those was one of my alt’s. There was no way to remove it from the running or I would have Log in to see images!

How about something like:

Day 1) Players get a maximum of 5 up-votes, which they can use on a random selection of 10% of the total submissions – the top 5 submission from this 10% go through to…

Day 2) Players get a maximum of 5 up-votes and can select from all 50 submissions.

This removes downvoting, bias on particular submissions (due to the random 10% factor) and allows everyone (even the bad ones) to get a fair go at it.

Votes are worth more due to their scarcity too.

For the record I got 12 up, 17 down, overall -5 and out!
