I would be in favor of splitting the active topics, and even making a clear break between “RP” and “Non-RP” forums, like put them in different sub-tabs in the Flamebate section. I like to read the serious boards, but I could really care less about the RP boards. “Not-having-to-see-them” would be something I’d appreciate.
