Posting personal information is fun. Everyone should try it at least once.

Ingredients:

4 cups of granulated sugar.

4 oz of 80 proof Jack Daniels No. 7

12 oz of Hunt’s Ketchup

6 oz of Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce

4 oz of simmered beef fat.

1/4 cup Soy Sauce

2 tbsp White Vinegar

———————————————

Method

In a 12 inch saucepan simmer down 4 ounces of beef fat and stir in the sugar, allow to caramelize and glaze. Stir in ketchup and hot sauce and allow to simmer for ten minutes before adding the Jack Daniels and the Vinegar. Add the soy sauce last and then remove from heat while stirring.

Great for use with pulled pork, burgers, or just about anything else you would eat with BBQ sauce.

Not sure I’d rock the beef fat, but it’s hard to go wrong with a Jack-based BBQ sauce.

it looks like a recipe I rly wanna try out someday (4 real!), maybe next summer. but I’ve got some issues with the ingredients as I’m non-US:

-is Hunt’s Ketchup ordinary ketchup or some kind of spiced ketchup? (I don’t think they have it here – never heard of it anyway)

-What is Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce? I also doubt they have it here, are there alternatives?

-the Jack Daniels No. 7 is only 45Vol% alcohol here. does it make a big difference? I do have Stroh though which is 80% but I think Stroh is rum-based and not whiskey-based.

It’s just an ordinary ketchup. It’s a little thinner than Heinz, and tastes better than Del Monte or Kurtz, but I’m sure any of those would substitute.

Orson I used to be a vegetarian. Though not a vegan. You can supplement the beef fat with a mixture of corn starch, canola oil, and a few other ingredients in fact here.

Vegetarian Beef Fat Substitute

1/2 Cup Corn Starch

3/4 Cup of “better than bullion” no beef, beef flavored broth. (Vegan Safe)

1 cup water heat water to a boil then add broth base and starch stir until desired consistency reached.

I'm not sure about all this spanking business but I do hate to see a child go unbeaten.

4 cups of sugar for less than 30 oz of wet ingredients? That’s not bbq sauce, it’s diabetes in a pan.

Hunt’s Ketchup is generic, use whichever brand you prefer or have access to.

Louisiana Hot Sauce is also generic. Any Cayenne-based hot sauce will do the trick. Crystal’s, Texas Pete’s and Frank’s Red Hot are popular alternatives that might be available outside the US. Generally though, the cheaper the hot sauce, the more likely that it’s a Louisiana style hot sauce.

Jack Daniel’s Old #7 is 80 proof, not 80%. 1 proof = 0.5%, so your 45% is actually 90 proof. At least if I understand you correctly. Anyway, the alcohol content is irrelevant as it evaporates in the cooking process.

I know the OP is from quite some time ago but I’m finally going on a first bbq of the year in a couple of days and I’d love to make some BBQ sauce. I was though wondering whether there is a vegetarian alternative to beef fat (yeah there is one of them in the group). [IGNORE THE PART STRIKED THROUGH] (and I dunno where to get beef fat anyway)

Huh? beef comes from cows, which have fat, and lots of steaks (read: beef) come with fat on the edges as well.
