The song choice should depend on the type of battle being fought. For example, if the ruler is the bad guy and a normal guy steps up to save the world against this guy, “Fanfare for the Common Man” would be perfect.
If the ruler is a kind, benevolent man and he overpowers a rebel, then a military march would be ideal. “The Thunderer,” although ****ty and overplayed, is an example of a decent one. |

Ottorino Respighi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXjxAFzdcAM&feature=related Olivier Messiaen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv67YkOWJNA Igor Stravinsky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTGrHibHrNg Unluckly, it’s only the ending: Brahms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_hbJ4Kigw I think that for a great battle is very indicate the Infernal Dance from the Firebird of Igor Stravinsky. For an epic ending it’s better Brahms.
I study clbumical music and I compose, I choiced some music more unusual of Verdi’s Requiem or Carmina Burana. McStalin edited this message on 01/02/2009 8:27AM |

If I had to meke a temp track for a fight scene in a movie, I would probably choose one of these:
Shostakovich Symphony 8 – Mvmt. III http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs06PsE2bZw&feature=related
Here is a second version of that same piece with a bit of the opening of movement IV, which makes for a nice death scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JhdFlFWiSQ&feature=related
Shostakovich Symphony 10 – Mvmt. II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nqm5AYowsIs&feature=related
You might also consider some actual film music. I think the Duel of the Fates by John Williams from Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace is the best fight scene music I’ve ever heard.
John Williams – Duel of the fates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyCigHHwOcE&feature=related
Hope this helps. |

“Sensemaya” – Silvestre Revueltas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZO2VkKKR7o
heavy percussive theme in odd-time with a dazzlingly dizzying ending, not likely to be groaned at by honest music types who read your novel. it’s a little bit of an stretch but i would cast it to be played in my final fight scene. |
