For several years, the feds dumped the “excess” social security taxes into the budget to make it look balanced. But that was accounting fiction at best, and lying at worst. Having said that, Bush’s war on individual rights plus the federal reserve’s currency inflation has destroyed the economy. He’s nearly as bad as Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR.

I see what you mean. It wasn’t the initial driver, but it is no less important to the demise of these corps. Paper bumets that cannot be quickly cashed in and/or become devalued in a bad market limited the ability to fix the economic issues.
