So, I know this may sound like ****ing, but I really do have a constructive suggestion. Some people, I’m bumuming new members, don’t seem to understand that submissions to forumbuildr are supposed to correspond with the TOPIC of the forum. I’ve seen clippings from news articles submitted as “typical posts”. WTF? Would it be possible to limit forumbuildr submissions to players of a certain level and above? Or at least give a sort of “test” (like on Kingdom of Loathing) that a player must pbum before he/she can submit?

What I hate about some submissions is that they are totally ripping off their idea from someone else.

For example, I submitted one thing, and three days later, I find that some other people are submitting the exact same idea. Like, for one of my enemies, one person decided to copy and paste the username, and they used the same avatar!

This leads to people being bugged by multiple submissions, and I don’t get the proper votes because some people see the multiples and just decide to Down all of them.

Ah yes, this has happened to me for a couple of things this past week. Would be nice if they had the date and time that something was submitted with it to help counter this.

Agreed…still new to Forumwarz, and I’m starting to participate in the forumbuildr, it would help stop a lot of repeats and copies if we had a date and time possibly.

Pardon my stupidity, but how would the date and time prevent repeats?

I think a better way would be for me to just not let people submit the same thing. Of course, slight variations could get through.

To Earthend and beyond!

I think the idea is that allowing people to see the date something was submitted would help prevent copycatting by letting people know which was the original and which one was copied and submitted later. That way there’s less incentive to copy, since you’d be more likely to be voted down. The problem with that, of course, is that people aren’t really going to want to go through eighty or so submissions and check the date of each one.

It wouldn’t prevent repeats, it would allow us to vote the earlier one up (if we’re so inclined) and any later copies down.

Especially if you remove the randomness and show the un-voted ones from earliest to latest.

Well not necessarily prevent, but give the voters an idea of who posted it first? and what variations branched off of which post?

That’s not quite the same thing. What people are talking about is users blatantly ripping off other user’s ideas which were already submitted. YouBoob is a parody of YouTube – to the creator’s credit, I’m sure most people don’t check .it domains. And Urbane Dictionary is a parody of Urban Dictionary – you may notice that “urbane” and “urban” have very different meanings, the joke is continued in Urbane Dictionary’s description.

Maybe I’m not bringing my “A” game anymore, but my submissions just ain’t as popular. It seems that you gotta be around right near 9pm Sunday or you’ll be lost to THE MIRE. But that’s kind of unavoidable.

Unfunny fabulous person

I submitted 2 near identical submissions last week. One I realised after posting it, had a flaw, the second didn’t. The second got accepted, the other ended up with a +1 score. Sounds good to me.

Youboob however fails because it’s been done properly many times. Also youporn and redtube.

Hmm do the different klans all vote for eachother’s topics? cuz that would definitely influence the choices.
