AGNOSTICISM WOO | |||||||

Religion is man’s attempt to explain himself – his creation, his purpose, etc.
Which means religion is creative and expressionist.
Which means religion is art. Simple as that. Religion is little more than a cross-medium artform, through which participants express themselves through their believes.
In the end, it doesn’t matter if God exists, because religion is about the human condition. As long as people follow the rules of their faith, than that faith is true in an abstract sense. It’s like saying Santa Claus doesn’t exist – no. As long as presents appear under tree with little “From Santa” tags on them, and as long as fat men dress as him in the malls, he does exist. The ideal and the purpose of Santa Claus is met, regardless of the reality.

So what the hell does this have to do with a soul? A soul implies some sort of mystical concept of humanity. DarkDespair5 edited this message on 12/10/2008 6:38PM |

DarkDespair5 Posted:
The definition of a soul is simple. Something with a soul actually has a point of view in the universe, distinct from other’s points of view. Nothing that mystical about it. I also severely doubt it can disappear at death, as a viewpoint being destroyed is less concievable than matter or energy being destroyed. The problem with talking about souls is that its not at all mystical, it just is difficult to describe to someone who doesn’t understand using words. |

What if I told you that I had a family of 500 people (Example and exaggeration), and that each and every one of us had each our own, individual beliefs, with each, different definitions of their God(s) or Goddess(es).
Now imagine I came up to you and said: “My personal religion is the only right one, but you cannot disprove or prove any of my family members’ religions, because you do not know the definitions of their God(s) or Goddess(es).”
What difference does this make between the “God” or “soul” that we’re discussing in this thread? You would never bother asking each person individually, because your head would surely explode.
Anyways, I’m not trolling, simply wondering, don’t start calling me names like Hobbart does please. Log in to see images! |

The existence of a God is debatable though I personally believe it. Arguing over the existence of souls is silly because if you think and feel that you don’t have a soul, then you have a soul. |

A better way to put it is: Theists say you’re going to hell. Atheists say you’re going to quit existing. I think the second is worse personally. |
