the large hadron collider will lead to the end of the universe, but not in the way most people think it will | |||||||

throughout history those who toiled in pure math and physics have had to come to terms with new ideas, completely alien to the conventional thinking of the time. Non-euclidean gemoetries, complex numbers, relativity and quantum mechanics have in turn shaken our scientists and mathematicians to the core. The work done with the large hadron collidor will be the next step in a sequence of increasingly abstracted theoretical models. these steps, whose discoveries will be made at faster and faster rates, will lead the mind of mankind to the final understanding, the one essential knowledge that our existence is founded on. the scientists will be led through all the steps in order, but the last one will be impossible to accept. Because how could anyone accept the fact that ∞ = -∞
they will see the proof for the ultimate contradiction laid in front of them, and at this moment of truth the knowledge will spread outward in a sphere, propogating at the speed of light, impregnating itself into every available subjectivity pattern in the noosphere. the objective universe will dissolve, consciousness will be laid bare and open, and at once everything that could conceivably be imagined, everything that ever could have been and might have been will happen simultaneously. This is the true meaning of the eschaton |

Impregnating? HOLY ****-U
Edit to not get B&: I don’t agree. I think the entire thing will just disappear in a cloud of logic. Like God did when we found the Babel Fish. ... ...42! AtomicScripter edited this message on 11/07/2008 12:24AM |

Oh, I just got sentrilliwhacked. It’s the total collective sphere of human thought. The noosphere is. What a gay name. |

I was sitting at my desk in a state between half-sleep and waking and dozens of people were filing past in front of and behind me. The room was large and devoid of any furniture besides the desk, my chair, and me. A demon came and sat on the edge of the desk and slowly ran his filthy fingernail along the desk top towards me, loudly gouging out a chunk of the wood. I was frightened, but the trick was to focus on the conversations of the dead as they ambled past me into Hell. |

You guys suck – a decent point that the almighty Laguna has actually bothered to read has been made and it gets fabulous personed up Log in to see images! (disclaimer – NOT TROLLING)
An interesting point though – I agree that the human consciousness undoubtedly cannot accept this; it’s beyond the scope of human thought, surely
I was about to say that I don’t buy into the noosphere stuff, but the more I read about it, the more unsure I am…
Why the end of the universe though? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the noosphere is the sphere of human consciousness, yes? How would this impact the whole universe exactly? Say this is true, perhaps human consciousness would go down the ****ter, but wouldn’t this be the end of just our planet rather than the whole universe?
Say for instance that this knowledge travels (if it hasn’t already) to another, far more advanced alien species. Wouldn’t such a thing be rather insignificant to their superior minds? They would survive, no?
If I’m talking complete **** here, I apologise, I’m just fascinated by this and would like to understand it properly Log in to see images! |

That is all well and good but when you hippies are done sitting around your hadron collider discussing existentialism and trying to decide which among you have pontificated long enough to earn an e-peen. In the end all of this higher human consciousness crap is MUMBO JUMBO. Get real humans are not some special being unique for their ability to expand their horizons. We are shaved apes with internet porn and automatic weapons and it time we started acting like instead of pretending we are going to expand into some giant energy cloud someday. One these days you will die. Your body will rot and your mind will cease to exist and all of your ponderings and suppositions will be moot.
Do yourself and the species a favor and please abstain from procreation. |

Of course, we might be able to “cheat death” in a sense by scanning in our brains into a computer sophisticated enough to run a full simulation of its neural network. Kinda like Bubble Troll, but without the bubble or the ability to switch off the internet (because you’re a mind running on a computer, not a fleshy body that needs to eat chips every once in a while.)

This was in a Yu-Gi-Oh episode. The universe in the computer was glitchy and the guy got frustrated pretty soon. Then he challenged Joey to a duel or something. |

No, I really don’t see how that would work, but I think you could have a very promising career writing really bad fanfic for the Hadron Collider.
