Or, more specifically, it came about because people were rampantly accusing Episode 2 Beta of using headsets to more efficiently coordinate their vanilla raids, thus eliminating the extra fractions of a second it would have taken to type “GO!”
And many laughs were had.
Well, not really, because it was a tongue-in-cheek accusation and not a particularly funny running gag. |

All the serious players in all the big MMOs use headsets for clan raids and stuff, I guess it makes sense… also you must be dead, this contest is dead, maybe you thought about it and realised it was a stupid idea that isn’t gonna work. **** contest plz die. oh wate.. |
