Inertia dude I undersatnd, you don’t want there to be some underlying focus on paying to play. However, you gotta be asking yourself this question..

Is it fair to make all these shops and items available to people who haven’t paid for the game? I mean, then whats the point of paying 10 bucks to support crotch zombie? I’m sorry but as much as I love storylines and whatnot, story is NEVER a justification for paying money. You go for other elements.

SO you argue its unfair for people to have to pay to get the good stuff, I say its unfair to have people pay merely to be able to watch a few fmvs and stalk convos.

You realize the only advantage at this moment is speed run times, and they have not been updated to reflect episode 2. They will be in the future when there’s a new data spread. Then it’ll be more fair.

Booh hoo, its not cheating so you should be in it. Its following the game, if you dont buy the exspansion dont complain about not getting the new troops I believe is the message people are tying to give.

It’s kind of weird to think about it this way, but in truth, being more efficient at pwning forums has a negligible effect on the truly competitive aspects of the game. There are the Cred and Flezz leaderboards, true, but almost everyone serious about competing there is sucked up into the game enough to *want* to pay for Episode 2.

The only way Episode 2 *really* effects competitive schemes is with raiding- in theory, people who could Episode 2 forums would have a serious edge over those that couldn’t. But if Episode 2 and 1 players get separated in dom, this isn’t really an issue.

Game dolphin and 69 visits are cheats, they gain without loss. This is expansion, its the natural progression of the game.

The whole “free game” thingy works best if you consider episode 1 and 2 as separate games (like the Half Life episodes, ferinstance). Episode 1 is a free game, whereas its sequel episode 2 is not. You’re right that it is a bit imbalanced domination-wise, though.

This statement is true. I don’t know what you were trying to prove.

And as far as domination goes:

Antrifreeze: People w/ Ep. 2 have more money to gamble because they have higher charisma and more cred giving threads

Chocolate Scoops: Unaffected

Lemon Scoops: Affected mildly (I think people without episode 2 can still get the upgraded attacks)

Pistachio: Pretty big difference since people w/ Ep. 2 have more forums available to build up a run

Vanilla: Very mildly (I.E. there are less people with access to ep 2 threads so it’s easier to pwn 4+ at a time)

Like other areas of the site, Domination is due for a serious overhaul. In the past we talked about splitting up domination into cheater’s domination and regular domination for example, so even cheaters could play.

If we partition it that way, making Episode 1 and Episode 2 dominations might be possible too, it just takes some thought.

Honestly it’s not some scheme to get people to pay, it’s just that it’s not a trivial piece of code to split it up. It will take a lot of thought and planning. It’s important to me that people can continue to play forumwarz without paying for a while, otherwise I wouldn’t have re-distributed the forumbuildr forums to give all sorts of > level 10 areas to pwn outside of Episode 2.

As for the whole “other sites don’t ask for money” argument, really any browser game with more than 10k users pretty much has to, otherwise someone rich is running it out of generosity. We just hit 70k user accounts. We get 45 dynamic requests per second, and that flat out costs money to run.

The only difference is that we’re experimenting with charging money for storyline content, as opposed to game upgrades. It may or may not work in the long run — that remains to be seen. But I promise you this, the other browser MMOs are watching this experiment closely.

Trout so far you have made the right choices. You unlike any other free browser game tsar do something different, you talk to us, you know us, you are one of us.
