Wow, a lot of interesting suggestions. Thank you guys for taking this seriously. Anyone who’s ever been stuck in an airport for hours knows how valuable a good book is.

Thank you

Which airport haven’t I been stuck in?

Unfortunately, not many…

Though some are nicer than others.

Irvine Welsh, Marabou Stork Nightmares

To paraphrase the movie “Crazy People,” this book won’t just scare you, it will **** you up for life.

Is it wrong of me to hold this against you? I appreciate the book suggestion, but I’m not sure if I’m gonna trust you after this one. It is beyond ****ed up.

Although I am trying to trick my wife into reading it.

Have you read “Crooked Little Vein” by Warren Ellis? I think you may like it.

House of Leaves – Mark Z. Danielewski

Sophie’s World – Jostein Gaarder

House of Leaves is just plain amazing (and goes along with the Poe CD “Haunted,” btw) and Sophie’s World will teach you all that you ever wanted to know about basic philosophy. If you wanted to know anything, that is.

I’m too lazy to read through this ****. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson and Hubert Selby, Jr is pretty much amazing. I’m also a big James Patterson fan. I’d check out some graphic novels too, while you’re at it.

This book is great stuff, if you don’t want to have a too serious of a read, not a story per say like most here, but it’s one of the books that got me reading again.

I really enjoyed this book, and got a lot of remarks while reading it in airports.

Let’s not forget The Alphabet Of Manliness by Maddox and I hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max. John Leguizamo’s book is p. good, too, as it Naked Famous People by Jon Stewart.

On the Subject of Graphic novels, have you read Superman Red Son? I’ve been thinking about buying it, but don’t know how good it is.

“Playground Pin-Up”

Koji Suzuki — The Ring. It’s a japanese urban-horror trilogy, some of you smartbumes may know by japanese movie and, mostly common, by it’s hollywood version. It’s full of suspence, phobias, and brush strokes of japanese sicky things.

“Legs Wide Open”

I’d recommend pretty much anything by Tom Robbins. Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates entertained me greatly.

I also really enjoyed Neal Stephenson’s Baroque Cycle (Quicksilver, The Confusion and The System of the World) I can only describe it as a dramatised historical novel. Takes a look at events of the late 17th/early 18th century with a whole lot of fictional characters thrown in with the key figures of that time (Including Newton and Leibniz, among others) Certainly one of those rare books that actually made me laugh out loud while reading it.

“Human Yeast Infection”

Charles Stross – Accelerando (breathtaking sci-fi) & The Atrocity Archives

Douglas Coupland – JPod

Neil Gaiman – American Gods and Good Omens (co-written with PTerry)

Greg Bear – Eon & Blood Music

Richard Morgan – Anything from the Takeshi Kovacs series, Altered Carbon may be a good start (it’s the first one)

Walter Jon William – Voice of the Whirlwind & Hardwired (old school cyberpunk)

Jeff Noon – Absolutely anything, contains SERIOUS weirdness

I don’t know were in the world you are but I have 2 copies of Accelerando (long story), anyone is welcome to the spare one (I’m in the UK)

On the subject of messed up books, has anyone read Twisted Little Vein by Warren Ellis?

I think it’s safe to say it’s like nothing else I’ve read.

I have and it is awesome.

Ok, about my reccomendations:

Anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Mario Vargas Llosa;

Hopscotch by Julio Cortazar;

John Dies at the End by David Wong;

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen & Seth Grahame Smith and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Jane Austen & Ben H. Winters.
