I travel a lot for my job, and typically read 2-3 novels a week. As such, I have burned through so many book series’ that I have run out of suggestions.

What are some of your favorite series’, and why?

Seriously, I need more material soon. I’m on the last Neil Gaiman novel, then I’m out of ideas.

There’s a lot of free stuff online. Older the better. Usually stuff that’s had their copyrights expired. Search wikipedia for old titles, and usually there will be entire texts in the external links section.

I read from here sometimes.Complete works of HP Lovecraft. Fun stuff.

Other sites that are dedicated to posting free books are Gutenberg and Gaslight. It’s old stuff, but I like it. Search for The White People by Arthur Machen, and see what I mean.

Well, damn if you’re almost out of Gaiman. Have you read the Sandman series? It was released as a comic and is now collected as a graphic novel in 10(?) volumes. Epic Gaiman storytelling.

Join Me – Danny Wallace

Yes Man – Danny Wallace

Martian Chronicles – Ray Bradbury (save for October though, it feels like Autumn to me)

The Phantom Tollbooth – Norton Juster (kids book that adults tend to love far more than kids do, just terribly clever)

If you haven’t already, you’d probably like pretty much anything by Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett. Neither have the dark edge that Gaiman has, but the Brit wit is there.

Oh god yes.

Just read loads of things by Bradbury as well.

I could never get into Terry Pratchett. It was funny the first time around but by the second book it all felt the same. :|

These books were great. In fact, my wife even read the survival guide and loved it.

I actually own these, their some of Gaiman’s best work. Have you read Anansi Boys yet?

The only Pratchett book I really enjoyed was Good Omens, which he wrote with Gaiman.

Nah, it’s a real guy. Spelling his name like that is kind of an injoke since nobody really wants to learn how it’s actually spelt.

“Problem Child IV”

Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon. Short, but a mind****.

Kiss Me Judas and Hell’s Half Acre by Will Christopher Baer. It’s a trilogy, but the second in the series (Penny Dreadful) isn’t that great and it’s not necessary for enjoying the third, really. Also, it’s where my user name comes from.

Libra by Don Delilio.

The World According to Garp by John Irving.

Dispatches by Michael Herr. Good Vietnam book.

Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer.

You Poor Monster by Michael Kun. This is one of those books that shakes you up, but you don’t really know why.

The internet makes me SO UPSET

After catching up with the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan I’m reading the Stephen King Dark Tower series, and wishing I had done it sooner!

As for a newer author, I really liked The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.

I agree completely. Palahainiuik’s books are amazing, and his writing voice has an unique feel that few writers can match.

There’s a series of Japanese light novels called Boogiepop – they’re written for a young adult audience, but the series has some pretty dark themes, and the series does some interesting stuff with narrative. Books 1-3 have already been translated, and Seven Seas announced that they’ve acquired the rights to novels 4-6 last year.

Beyond that, I can’t read much at the mment beyond what I’m required to read for college, so if you haven’t read anything by Langston Hughes, Fast Food Nation, Lord of the Flies, Player Piano, etc…that’s pretty much what I’m reading right now.
