Anyone know of any free games that don’t suck? i was recently browsing the facepunch thread and knew there had to be more out there, I myself prefer games with violence, mammary glands, RPG elements or a combination of the 3 but don’t not posts stuff just because it doesn’t fall into those categories, I’ll get the ball rolling with the aforementioned thread and a few extras.

Anarchy online, one of the few cyberpunk mmo’s out there, it’s a pretty good game though AO does get a lot of calls from 1998, demanding their graphics back so if you’re a graphics whore i guess you may wanna give it a miss.

Dwarf Fortress and Liberal Crime Squad, we have threads for both so no real explanation is needed.

To have something relevent to the thread, I’m currently trying out ToME. Far too strong on the direct Tolkien influence, but seems like a good enough game to make up for it. ...As soon as I figure out all the bloody controls.

And now for a coffee fueled rambling about some game i wrote after having been awake for 20 hours after having only 5 hours sleep!
Yahtzee, eat ya heart out!

From the makers of Counter-Strike 2D:Stranded 2. If you’re into Survival games then you’ll love this(along with Notrium, same idea only it involves an alien planet and it’s a top down 2D game).

the premise behind Stranded 2 is you’re some bloke who’s stuck on an island after your yacht caught fire and exploded because god dammit you where far too rich to let something like violent weather ruin a perfectly good chance to go out to sea, awaking on the shore you have to gather supplies that have washed up ashore from the aforementioned boat and survive long enough to build another, less lightning-rodlike boat or something to escape(to be fair i didn’t get that far into the story), along the way you encounter everything you’d expect to encounter on an island, rocks, trees, bushes and the like which can be harvested for their precious resources which in turn can be manufactured into a number of useful items including a hammer, axe, spear, net, hut, campfire, torch, scythe, treehouse, storage container, tent, slingshot, bow and a bunch of other stuff, all these different sharp pointy/blunt…blunty things would be useless however without something to stick them in and the island is teaming with wildlife, from my adventures i’ve located kiwi birds, giant snails, fish, birds, lions, monkeys, numerous small insects and those bastard crickets, I’ve even word heard there are Velociraptors which you can tame and ride so there’s plenty to do for those who arn’t content with just licking slime off a rock.

Graphics wise it’s alright verging on kinda bad but when it comes down to it this isn’t the sort of game that requires fancy graphics so really this sentence was a complete waste of time, speaking of wastes of time you’ll find the random island generator and map editor will suck away those precious seconds, minutes and hours faster than a Taiwanese hooker on speed so don’t go worrying that everything is nearing an end and that it really wasn’t worth downloading once you’ve done the storyline, there’s still plenty of kiwi-pounding fun to be had with those 2 handy features.

Multiplayer is non-existent and it never will exist so don’t bother talking about it, as a consultation it’ll run on Windows bloody Vista though so atleast you know there’s no risk of you mingling with us lepers.

In summary it’s a great freeform survival FPS/RTS/RPG hybrid that’ll go down a treat with anyone who likes hitting small defenseless creatures with hammers

You know your onto a winner of a review when you begin by installing the game and, in an attempt to make a frankly hilarious insult directed at an entire nation based on their actions a number of years ago end up writing “C:/Program files/NZI GAEMS” as the folder path name, amusing anecdotes aside i’m here to inform you of a most…strange game named Schiffbruch AKA “shipwreck” for those who don’t speak German, it’s basically the slower, harder cousin of Stranded 2, you consist of a dude who crashes his boat or something(didn’t watch the intro) and end up on a randomly generated island with little more than the shirt on your back, movement is done using the mouse and you main objective is to try and escape, your chance of escape is calculated by percentage and you can increase this percentage by doing things like not dying, repositioning stones so they say “SOS”(fat chance of that ever happening though, i just KNOW most of you are gonna write “male reproductive organ” instead) or by using pirate treasure or something, i’m honestly not sure what you do, i’ve played it for exactly 5 minutes before thinking i should review this, in hindsight this was a big mistake but **** like I care i’m on coffee No. 5.
Graphics are one up from a roguelike and that’s about it, again no multiplayer and as far as i know there are no Kiwi birds to smash with a glorified rock on a stick.
In short Schiffbruch is basically Stranded 2 for the Amiga, an alright game that takes up about half a byte, basically it’s worth trying if you like drawing crude male reproductive organes out of rocks.

/\ /\ /\ I’ll probably cobble together something a little more coherent after I’ve been to sleep /\ /\ /\

Speaking of roguelikes – Iter Vehemens Ad Necem, or IVAN.

I also play Frets On Fire (Guitar Hero emulator, use your keyboard as the guitar) a lot, as I don’t have the god-damned money to buy the real thing. You can download all songs from GH1, 2, 3, and 80’s!

well it’s a small download, but it’s a pretty big task to finish. It’ll take 2-3 days to finish with a winning character, but it will take ages to get a winning character.

Cave Story is awesome go download it if you haven’t played it.

I’m surprised no one has said bittorrent.com every game is free

Yeah, i remember reading about ToME on the bay12 forums, seems pretty good(i’m a big LotR fan).

Laos it’s really weird seeing one of your posts and NOT thinking “right, how can i work a fat joke into that?”
