The time limit on amnesty is because now that’s it’s a well-established rule, it’s going to start being enforced. However, there are people, such as Monkey with a Gun, whose only “misbehavior” was the illegal alt issue. There are plenty of people (from the tubmails I’ve been getting, including some who you wouldn’t ever have thought of) who have at one point or another created an illegal alt, and who just want to keep playing the way they have been. So, we’re giving them a chance to do so. MwaG was the only one who was currently banned when the rule came out, so that account was unbanned to allow him to act the same as others in the same position. Rather than favoritism, it was a balancing act.

PANTS et. al. were not permabanned for the illegal alts, they were permabanned for repeatedly and willfully breaking established rules which they knew to be wrong, as they had been previously banned, often several times, for the exact same thing. Enough was enough. The fact that they created multiple illegal alts was incidental to the permabans, and the timing was just coincidental.
