I’m just not sure there’s enough material there for a forum, though I guess we’ll see as shit unfolds.

Then again, I actually thought Wiccapedia turned out pretty well, for the most part.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-04-07T16:58:33Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/65677Can we get clarification on what is allowable in discussing forumbuildr submissions?

MySpace Tom Posted:

I’m not too convinced about the random haters being responsible for most unexpected -5’s. I had a couple enemy ideas this week that I thought were brilliant (for the record, YES WICCAN and Blessed Beyotch) but got axed within the first day. So I tried slight variations on both later in the week and pretty much the same thing happened. I still don’t have a good theory on why I overestimated their chances so poorly, especially since the first still makes me laugh, but I don’t think random downvoting can be blamed. Another enemy submission that I made at the same time as the first two is doing great – and it was the one I thought was going to die quickly and quietly!

In general, I think a useful way to analyze why a submission succeeded or failed is to keep in mind that the vast majority of voters are only giving things at most a few seconds consideration before voting. Any joke that takes more than a few seconds to appreciate is doomed, which means your references need to be very accessible (and you need to know your audience pretty well, of course). I have to admit that I’ve downvoted a couple items that didn’t “click,” only to get them later and wish I could go back and change my vote.

For the record, I upvoted both those names.

I submitted blessed_bee with that bug picture, DefyingGravity, BloodSugarSexMagick, and HoodooVoodooYouDo almost immediately after the forum went up, and they all got immediately exploded. Now I just wish I hadn’t submitted them in the first place, because now my buildrscore’s gonna go down. What was so shitty about those, by the way? I’m agreeing with a bunch of people in this thread that yeah, I dunno how to improve.

Also, if anybody saw that post I submitted for God Hates Facts about telling a kid that since God made [vegetable] and she didn’t think God was gross, she didn’t think [vegetables] were gross- I was curious to see if that’d do well, cause that actually happened to me when I was a wee one.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-04-05T00:14:54Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/65676poop on a baby
paraone, is it bad that among all these shitty trolls, i have missed you and your crap
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-04-05T00:10:26Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/62481Why my Wiccapedia logo submission pwns.
I have to say I like #2 a hell of a lot.

Idk, I though YouBoob was brilliantly done considering it’s not a forum. However, I agree for the most part, one problem I see with wiccipedia is that half the people are just assuming it’s a forum and the other half are treating it as wikipedia (with stuff like “someone needs to edit that out!”.

This bugs me a little bit, but honestly, the broader the topic the better, imo. There have been some forum ideas that I would have upvoted if they were just a little broader- for example, there was a baby names forum that I think has potential. However, it’d be a lot better as a general baby discussion forum, which can contain baby name jokes as well as other stuff.

Honestly, I think the reason why we’re seeing this with Wiccapedia is that people are way too lazy (myself included) to write entire short articles. Massive kudos to anyone who wants to try, though.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-31T01:07:11Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/59769Corrupt Bargain?

Escher Posted:

Also, which Klans are providing voting blocs? Any proof? Or is this just “wah-wah-wah my forums don’t win so winners must be CHEATING!!!!1!!”? Because it really sounds like the latter.

I do think some of the complaints are sour grapes. Personally, though, I don’t so much care that mine get voted down- it’s not like my shit doesn’t stink like everyone else- but I hate seeing tons of really, really good submissions that aren’t mine getting immediately -5ed.

I’m more talking about regular submissions, not forum ideas- for the most part I think the forum idea voting has been fair. (Mine have gotten shredded, but hey, you win some, you lose some. )

I think there definitely is a lot of blind downvoting going on, though- I’ve seen plenty of ideas, mine and otherwise, that even if they weren’t stellar, really shouldn’t have murdered within 15 seconds of submission.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-30T22:16:51Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/59766Broken word types?
@wiccan_holiday is broken. I dunno if there are others that aren’t working- I just saw a submission that had it in there broken. I tried to use it, but got rid of it once it failed several times. Always remember to preview your shit, ladies.

Edit: This seems to be happening with all the new word types associated with Wiccapedia- I’ve seen tarot_meaning and occult_object both not work. Personally I’m holding off on voting on anything involving those word types for the moment.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-30T22:12:06Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/59217The -5 system: A mathematical consideration

Skyreal Posted:

IMHO the removal of submissions at -5 total votes is redundant, with the recent introduction of limits to submissions, and the fact that higher rated submissions have a higher chance of appearing.

This is a good point, actually- it might be a good idea to drop the -5 threshold to, say, -8 what with the submission limits keeping everything at a reasonable level.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-30T08:20:10Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/59215Awesome work so far this week guys
I’m really liking this one too. One of my submissions is something that was actually said to me, so I’m rooting for it.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-30T08:17:59Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/59214Sick voting system
I’m very much against limiting votes. For one thing, the scale of things is probably only going to get larger, and even now- only having 20 up and 20 down votes for 260 submissions is a little ridiculous. Then people would -really- get screwed by what people see first, because nobody’s going to read all 260 and then go back to vote on the top/bottom.

The system really isn’t that bad, it’s just some of the people using it. I do think having some kind of ‘grace period’ before a submission can be deleted is a good idea, so that more people can weigh in on something. Sometimes you’re at the mercy of the 5 people that happen to be online, who are all downvoting the entire list.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-30T08:16:32Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/50673What happened to NAIVE?

PIMPTASTIC-FROTH Posted:

Two of my ideas that got accepted were had at least a hundred up and probably 60ish down.

I really don’t think the score should be able to go negative, and ‘7’ should probably be the baseline number of submissions.

I think people should err on the side of including more word types. If an entry has no word types, it’s only funny once; if it has lots of word types, it’s potentially funny in many different ways. Tonight I did vote up an entry that had only one word type, but only because I thought it was hilarious, and I still feel kinda guilty about it.

Sometimes I’m tempted to take someone’s entry and re-submit it with the words replaced by word types…but that would probably be wrong. Still, I feel bad because some of these entries would be awesome if they just had more word types…

Personally, I think it depends on the entry. I’ve seen some with no word types that are hilarious, and wouldn’t really work well with any. I vote those up. If there’s a funny one with no word types that could easily have them, though, I’ll vote it down.
ravenblooDDarkdreams2008-03-12T09:20:24Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/39990woohoo!

Velveteen Posted:
