Episode 2: Would you Pay?The Onion has an ad that you see every time you go to the site, while you’re being redirected to the main page. They’ve been running free for years, and have recently added streaming videos. Of course, they’re strictly a humor site and not a game, but the point is that you should be able to charge more for ads that are more prominently displayed.
I’m not a marketing person or anything, so I could be way off. But I still think more ads are a good way to make revenue. People who play browser games generally log on at least once a day. That’s a lot of traffic. (view post) |

Episode 2: Would you Pay?I like what I get for free, and I don’t really expect much out of browser games. Every time the server lags, I go “oh, well, it’s free” and go play something else.
I think the game is well-thought out and quite funny, but really I’m primarily here because it’s free, and I don’t think pay is a wise choice. As the game grows in popularity, selling more advertising and doing merchandising will become more viable options. Of course, I guess with more fans comes more strain on the servers, so maybe it’s a double-edged sword.
So no, I wouldn’t pay. I’d totally buy a t-shirt, though. Log in to see images! (view post) |

That ****ing cop <spoilers>Yeah, I was in the same situation, but the deliveries bailed me out.
Curious, though – if I needed to sell something important in the Ppwn Shop, how long would it stay there, and how much interest would I have to pay to get it back? (view post) |

Since we only to get to submit 5 idea now...First – what? I’m pretty sure it’s 7, not 5.
Second, I just counted 80 Enemies, 198 Thread Titles, 157 Typical Posts and 160 Angry Replies…and it’s only Tuesday. I think it will be enough. (view post) |

“A philosophy disguised as a joke disguised as a religion” works all right, but IMO, they do a great job of getting at ideas and concepts all the other religions were trying to get at before they got bogged down in dogma and nonsense (nonsense in a bad sense, that is, non-ironic nonsense) (view post) |

How do you Forumwarriorz feel about my man Ralph Nader?narth Posted:
Exactly. Stop blaming Nader for “splitting the vote.” Nobody automatically deserves votes just by virtue of being in the slightly more reasonable party. I refuse to vote against McCain or against Clinton/Obama, I’m going to vote for someone I want to be President.
My problem with Nader is that he’s been so negative lately. I went up on his website during the 2004 election, and his entire strategy was “vote for me! I’m not Bush and I’m not Kerry! I don’t have anything positive to say, but they suck!” That’s great, Ralph. I’m not Bush or Kerry, either. Vote for me! The least of three evils.
Still, he’s less frightening than Log in to see images! (view post) |

How we plan to improve ForumBuildr!I admit I’m a n00b, and don’t really know anything about voting abuse, but I’m wary of any system that limits downvotes. There are a lot of players, and a lot of submissions, and frankly there are a lot of bad ideas. If something is typed wrong so that the random words don’t come up correctly, or is a repeat of something that’s already been suggested, or is just plain not funny, people are going to want to vote it down. Seriously, how many jokes about yaoi do we need? If the designers are keeping track of voting records, they can contact people privately if they suspect them of abuse.
Just a thought on copycats: is it possible that some repeats are not attempts to cheat but the result of people just not looking to see what’s been submitted? For example, I saw the skeleton avatar w/the name “Starving Artist” more than once, but it’s so obvious an idea that two people could have come up with it independently. Maybe a search option, or a notification if someone has already submitted the same name? (view post) |

Simple tips for better Forumbuildr submissionsListen2Reason Posted:
I disagree. If something’s funny, it’s funny. Everything gets old after a while, and cluttering an entry up with too many word types makes it really funny once in a while, and an irrational mess nine times out of ten. Word types should be used in moderation. Comedy is often in the details; choosing the best word for your specific joke.
Then again, I never really found MadLibs funny anyway…
If there’s a problem with repetition, why don’t they just have a larger pool of random jokes to pull from? (view post) |
