R.I.P. Net Neutralityman-man Posted:
I am confused because you sound like someone who supports net neutrality, but this hope of yours seems to completely contradict that stance. You seem to be describing a situation in which customers of a certain ISP (let’s say Comcast for argument’s sake) exercise their rights as consumers to choose a competing company for service. That’s pure capitalism, the definition of a free market economy, and the antithesis of a governmental authority determining what services a corporation can offer its customers. Log in to see images!
It’s not that I’m against net neutrality, I’m just disgusted by the idea that the FCC has the authority to regulate bandwidth of any sort. They don’t. Congress does because it is able to regulate commerce, electronic or otherwise. Congress can impose whatever regulations they see fit upon Comcast or any other ISP; the electorate put them in power to make those decisions. The FCC is just a bureaucracy, outside of the sphere of public influence, and they

Know anything about computers? That’s definitely physical errors. You need a new drive. Don’t even try to boot from it or partition it anymore.
Like leetlol said, the only thing you can do about your files is buy some file recovery software and slave the bad drive on another system, or if it means that much to you, take it to data recovery experts which will cost you several hundred if not thousands of dollars.
I’ve had a similar situation happen to me, I bought a cheap ($10) 2.5” to 3.5” adapter for the hard drive and plugged it in my desktop. That worked for the file recovery. (view post) |

Know anything about computers? If you can’t boot to disk I’d get on whatever computer you can and download a copy of BartPE, burn it, and boot that from CD. You can run chkdsk and do some file recovery from there.
ETA: you’ll need a WinXP disc to build the image file (view post) |

Know anything about computers?Slowness could be due to read errors; the drive’s integrity might be questionable if it was really hit hard.
If I were you I’d back up whatever you can immediately, reboot into safe mode and run ‘chkdsk /r’ from a command prompt. If it returns a significant number of bad sectors you may have a faulty drive. (view post) |

[HUGE SPOILER WARNING] ITT: Post your final according to your alignment (building a wiki article)Unaligned/Neutral: Unlocks RWOX CVDK OAAX
For your last move, you run the Gatecrasher program. You open the floodgates, exposing Shallow Esophagus to its highly interested competitors.
With full access to Sentrillion’s most protected data, the swarm of Geronimo employees grab whatever info they can before Sentrillion’s engineers have a chance to patch up their security breach.
The Geronimo brbum are very pleased about the outcome, and you’re paid handsomely for your efforts.
Now, with Shallow Esophagus exposed like a blonde turtle flipped on its back, bits of and pieces of the technology behind it start showing up everywhere.
Geronimo comes out with its own fairly buggy version of an AI; a couple of Geronimo’s hackers come out with their own open-source version that works great but nobody uses; and even a couple of former Sentrillion VPs come out with an alternative AI themselves called “Nìot” — apparently pronounced “neat” — though it’s widely panned by critics for spewing out irrelevant data and failing to recognize its own existence.
As for Sentrillion itself, after a bit of downtime, the “Einstein” project (as it came to be called) continues moving forward.
You keep an interested eye on it throughout its lifespan; it becomes a fairly successful venture for the search giant.
After several years, it becomes so entrenched into Sentrillion’s products that nobody even notices whether there’s an AI there or not. It just becomes “the Internet” to most casual surfers, although the competition keeps it from becoming a monopoly.
In general, AI-bumisted search is a pretty good business, but it’s generally not as profitable as AI-bumisted porn.
Online gaming becomes much more interesting though: You can interact with truly intelligent NPCs that respond to you in real time, essentially making up a unique story as you go along. Games that you thought were pre-scripted are generated on the fly.
In fact, the line between reality and virtual reality becomes so blurred, you almost grow nostalgic for your days of pwning forums, which was the last “real” experience you can remember.
Imagine that.
You even start to think you should get a customized t-shirt to commemorate the whole thing. And you can get a really cool one right now at zazzle.com/forumwarz! Nìot, huh? (view post) |

Tell me about Alaska, I'm thinking about moving there. Also in Anchorage its not as cold as everyone thinks. It rains much more than it snows during the non-winter months. I think due to some ocean current or something that keeps the climate milder than the interior. I was in Anchorage for a couple weeks during August/September 2000 and it was about 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit. I may not notice as much because I’m from Michigan and no part of Alaska I stayed in really felt blisteringly cold.
Only other thing I can think of is that there are a million active volcanoes nearby to be wary of, and earthquakes are common off the coast. (view post) |

Anchorage is a huge city, in terms of area. You have to drive miles to get anywhere. Also the streets are crawling with Natives, they are everywhere and nobody likes them. They’re like the Alaskan version of Log in to see images! (view post) |

I guess that’s where we disagree then. Maybe he’s a ****ty drummer in the “new” Sepultura (like I said, I haven’t heard) but I was truly impressed when I saw him 10 years ago. Give Roots another listen. Drummer may not even be the correct term since half the songs on the album are different varieties of percussion.
Regardless, if it really doesn’t make a difference, pull the string out of your sandy vag and drop it instead of acting all bumhurt over the idea that I like his (old) style of drumming. (view post) |

Against was 1998. There is nothing even remotely resembling blast beats on Chaos AD or Roots which is when he developed the tribal style with multiple forms of percussion. To say he’s a ****ty drummer because he used blast beats on a song or two on a ****ty generic Sepultura album is asinine. In fact I’d say the use of them, sporadic as it is, shows his versatility.
I saw two live shows in the Chaos/Roots era and he was phenomenal, which was really when I started noticing the precision and skill involved in his playing. Labeling him a blast-beat maniac is patently false and quite ignorant. (view post) |

Heavy metalAre we talking about the same Igor Cavalera? You aren’t, apparently. I haven’t heard him play a blast beat since maybe Beneath the Remains.
When a guy can play 6 different types of percussion in one live setlist (and not suck) I tend to be impressed. He may not be as technical as someone like Mike Portnoy but I don’t think Keith Moon was as technical as John Bonham, hence the comparison. Moon’s still the greatest drummer ever. (view post) |

Heavy metalI haven’t heard anything Igor recorded in Cavalera Conspiracy or post-Against Sepultura because I just bumumed it would suck, so it’s possible I’m full of ****. But the two times I saw him play live it was truly incredible. He was like the Keith Moon of metal drummers. (view post) |
