Do you believe in Evolution?Dunatis Posted:
Is there a religion which thinks god created us to have something to **** around with?
And as far as purpose in life goes, we all can have a purpose that is relevant on earths scale, which is quite enough for me. On any larger scale our influence is minuscule at best for at least a couple of thousand ears ahead. Thus I think god could not even have any grander predetermined purpose for us. And as I said earths scale is too small to be relevant to a near omnipotent power. Ergo god has no reason to give a rats bum about us. Unless He just enjoys staring at how we kill each other, in which case earths scale would be just perfect, though still irrelevant to all those supernovas and whatnot.
And I find it easy to think free will exists. that said I also believe that it would be theoretically possible to foresee everything that goes on around here, had we a big enough “computer”. However that would require a computer very much larger than our universe, so that it could effectively simulate everything that goes on around here. I am practically talking running a 1 to 1 scale simulation in, say 10 times sped up. This would naturally have to occur outside our universe, and is theoretical at best, but you get the point. Do you believe in Evolution?I find it general hard to believe in god for the simple idea that if there in fact existed a being powerful enough to great a universe, or even to control evolution and whatnot, I don´t see why it would give a rats bum about us. Given the size of the universe the earth is so small and young I doubt it would not even have noticed us yet. and if we were created the “for what” still remains. (view post) |

Come troll the GOP“we need to employ some of those invincible black knights from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
“Build a wall along our borders. Not a wimpy fence. China did it and the toursim dollars the wall brings in will more than pay for the cost. I’m thinking a 1000 feet high and a 100 feet or more thick. A man made mountain range. That’ll keep people out! P.S. Canadians are a bigger threat to our security than we realize. Did you realize the late Peter Jennings’ Canadian, yet hosted an American news program? They can blend in unnoticed into our society and our border with them is totally demilitarized!!! They can just sneak across and pretend to be Americans, with their stinkin’ European-wannabe socialism. P.P.S. Maybe anchor some mines along our coastal waterways so no one sneaks in on boats.”
“eliminating minimum wage laws will allow companies to hire many more Americans for just a fraction of the price. If Mexicans can work for 2$ an hour, so can we.” (view post) |

find me metaphorssssIt is quite clearly a growing up thing, just looking at the last lines:
That day, the last of my youth, on the last of our mountains.
But more it is about David letting go of Bob(narrator). In the beginning there are many David showed me this and David taught me that, showing us that David is in fact the elder here, as said possibly the father. Also the ending is highly hinted in a smaller metaphor with the robin:
And drew me up after. We set a new time for that climb.; That day returning we found a robin gyrating; In grbum, wing-broken. I caught i to tame but David; Took and killed it, and said, “Could you teach it to fly?”
Clearly robin represents Bob here, not able to fly/become an adult/be free, and and Bob would be the robins tamer/teacher, and David is the mountain. There is no way the Bob could teach anything more to the robin to make it free, as there is nothing more David can teach to Bob about adulthood. The suspense here comes from the fact that the robin is killed, not the teacher, thus posing the question if bob, our narrator is killed in the end.
When David gets injured, it is clear to him, instantaneously that he will die, and first thing he wants to be pushed over. He has to let go of Bob, and he knows it. And as it continues:
Straight eyes and brokenly murmured, “over… over.”; And I, feeling beneath him a cruel fang; Of the ledge thrust in his back, but not understanding,; Mumbled stupidly, “Best not to move,” and spoke;
of his pain. But he said “I can’t move … If only I felt; Some pain.” Then my shame stung the tears to my eyes; As I crouched, and I cursed myself, but he cried; Louder, “No, Bobbie! Don’t ever blame yourself.”
First off I´d note that this is the only point in the poem where between the paragraph thingies there are two lines in stead of one. I doubt it is an accident. This is the vital turning point in the poem, but I won´t dig into this too deep.
Bob does not understand the situation, he doesn´t understand that David has to let go, thus he tries to save him. Also David said I can’t move … If only I felt Some pain., in which the pain pretty much represent the feelings of him letting go of Bob, and that he feels none means he has no regrets and is in fact happy that he can now let go, and Bob can live his own life. also in the story’s context it means that he is happy it is him dying, not Bob.
The same goes to the last line. Bob is never to blame himself for what it takes to let go, to grow out from under someones wing. Also to top this of David is unable to push himself over the edge, Bob has to do it. Bob is the one who has to let go in the end, not David. It is really quite touching understanding that the mentor has to let go first, has to understand that there is nothing more to teach, but in the end the student, bob here, has to truly let go.
Anyway that my two cents, I haven´t done this in a while but it was refreshing. And from this you got at least the robin thing, and the letting go bit in the end as far as metaphors go. (view post) |

Do you believe in Evolution?I agree with pretty much everything here. The theory of evolution is as much a theory as the theory that I(as all of us) die at some point. I mean there are almost 7 billion humans still alive, so clearly mortality hasn´t been proven 100 percent. Only thing that´s for sure is that 99.995%(random %) of humans have died, so it is just very probable that everyone dies, but not certain by any means. (view post) |

Do you have what it takes? Survivor: ForumWarz! 100BP + exclusive peenWell, first congrats to you all for getting to the end.
swine: you were in alliance with plk basically the whole time after the merger, and plk kicked bum in many challenges AND had the hidden immunity. So it looks to me that plk was just better than you, while you both pretty much were on the same train otherwise. So I ask you why should we vote for you over plk?
man-man: You managed to sway between alliances quite well after being left as the last TB member standing. Now I want to know is why, at top five, did you decide to vote off Jimmy with swine and plk, effectively resulting in voting with them again to drop me.
plk: I don´t have much to ask you… How about what is your favorite color? (view post) |

I am quite nervous at this point in, not only because the last two voted were TGOT, but mostly due to the shifts this game has had in the last few tribals. Anyway the old tribe lines are gone by now, so that really doesn´t mean much looking into this vote. (view post) |

Feeling vulnerable at this point of the game is nothing surprising, but I have to say I am quite happy at the position I am in right now. Of course I am still doing all I can to keep that position secure, I doubt just sitting put and praying for good luck is never a good idea. (view post) |
