Don’t we already have Fanfiction Freaks? While the submitter may be new to ForumWarz (at level 36?), I can’t help but wonder who upvoted it. I surely didn’t – tried nuking it and upvoting everything else, but that still didn’t work.

The fact that the forum that came in second is basically the same concept as Anarchist Playbook doesn’t help, either.

Now the only way not to have this duplicate forum is to tell everyone not to submit the required logo, style, and icons for it, so it can’t be published.
Kittysan2010-10-04T03:57:25Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/850183NewDotMoarFiles - Know when new .moar files are available to extract

SanDyk Posted:

Here, happy now? I guess you were only here to nitpick me instead of offering anything related to the subject at hand.

Anyway, I decided to clear my FireFox cache. Now, the Neona’s Streak Marker works with Kosher’s and Forums Bookmarks pages. But it’s still not working with the Vanilla Helper page, which is even weirder.

Also, Neona’s Streak Marker seems to be in conflict with SuperKosherCrazyCareers. If both are on, then the streak Filter option isn’t workable. The forums in the streak are still shown after the filter is applied. Those forums are still marked with Pistachio scoop, so at least you know which one is already pwned.

quangntenemy’s Streak Marker, however, works everywhere after the clearing of my cache. Although I like the simplicity of Neona’s script, I guess it’s time to make the switch.
Kittysan2010-08-25T06:01:38Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/849742NewDotMoarFiles - Know when new .moar files are available to extract
I seriously have no idea; I’m not an expert JAVA coder. Besides, when the Streak Marker had a problem with the ö in Nientendö Official Forums, only that one forum wasn’t marked as pwned, but all others forums that were part of the streak were still marked as intended. But now, no forum is marked at all.

However, I can tell you that some other scripts, like Forum Helper still works (albeit not updated in my case.) The sorting function of SuperKosherCrazyCareers also works, but the streak filtering is not. So I think it’s not about my Firefox or Greasemonkey. In fact, I was in the middle of doing my Kosher’s job yesterday when suddenly the Streak Marker that worked perfectly just a few minutes before that stopped working. Weird.

Anyone has the same problem? SuperKosherCrazyCareers is the strangest case since one function of it works and another doesn’t.

Also, is the link http://www.forumwarz.com/bookmarks/streak supposed to be accessible? I still think that could be part of the problem.

EDIT: I’ve done 4 more jobs today, and now the Streak Marker worked every time I finished a job and returned to Kosher’s via the Character page link. But it didn’t work after a refresh, or anywhere else, or clicking the link again after that. It only worked one time and one time only after I finished pwning a forum. Now that’s just ridiculous.
Kittysan2010-08-24T06:17:51Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/849426NewDotMoarFiles - Know when new .moar files are available to extract
Streak Marker scripts aren’t working again. These includes the original Neona’s version, quangntenemy’s version, and Wrong’s SuperKosherCrazyCareers.

All of them draw streaks information from http://www.forumwarz.com/bookmarks/streak which is, coincidentally, not accessible. Could this be the source of the problem?

1. In the process of creating lolicon (i.e. sexual drawing of young girls engaging in sexual acts), are real children actually harmed in the process? Do lolicon artists use real girl models to draw them? Do they use child pornography? Their own children? (Heaven forbid!) Medical pictures? Or do they just copy them from prior lolicon artists?

2. Do people who have lolicon fetish go out and rape/seduce/abuse real children? Or do they just use those materials to satisfy themselves, alone and in private? If there are lolicon fan who go out and hurt real children (and I’m sure there are), how many are them? And most importantly, how many are them compared to the whole lolicon community?

As far as I know, lolicon is still legal in Japan, while child pornography and child abuse is definitely not. Looks like Japaneses know how to draw the line: if no real children is hurt, it’s a victimless crime, and you can do what you want.

And for some strange reason, Kitty-san’s entries tend to get the necessary votes in the short span of time between submissions.

Sheesh. You haven’t read what I wrote, have you, mterek? Which part of the extremely detailed design process you don’t understand? Perhaps it was my fault for trying to explain too much, because you don’t seem to have the concentration and mindpower to read more than one paragraph.

Let’s me recap the whole thing for you TL;DR generation out there:

1. Recently, all my styles are submitted on Thursday, within a few hours after the logo has been determined.

2. It is possible that my first submitted style isn’t doing well. In that case, I resubmit, tweaking a few things.

3. For PeTV and Nientendö, my styles were submitted first, gained early lead, never came down, and won in a landslide.

4. I used GIMP to pick best colors. Right color set is halfway to victory. After that, it’s minor tweaking to please the viewers.

5. I never claimed my self to be the best style submitter ever. I just happened to win a lot lately. Don’t put your word in my mouth.

6. Why do I win amidst many similar styles? Because I care about details. I don’t rush my job and keep everything as default, like you.

7. All your accusations are incorrect and false.

was Posted:

Although this was your quote, the following response isn’t directed at you, was...

I dare you. I FUCKING DARE YOU. I dare you to go tell the mods. I dare you to call for an investigation of any possible voting fraud.

After ghax’s voting scam, do you really think that Crotch Zombie is going to let that happen again? Instead of admitting that I can design styles that people like, and you can’t, you have to come up with false accusation based on false observation. You insult not only my victory, but my reputation, and my integrity as well.

How about this? If the mods can find any hint of fraud, or alt abuse on my part, let them Permaban me and strip all my design E-Peens. But if they can’t find anything suspicious, let they ban you instead for slandering and ad hominem attacks. I think it’s only fair this way. Because frankly, you can’t accuse someone of fraud, have your accusation proven false, and get away with it.

So, do you dare to accept my challenge? If you do, go ahead and tell the mods to investigate. Otherwise, SHUT UP.

Well, I thought of posting it as a new thread, “My style design principle”, or something like that. But that seems too much like self-promotion. And it’s likely to generate hatred instead of admiration. So I decided to reply in this thread, where the accusation started.

And sorry for the length. But since mterek doesn’t seem to understand how my designs win, and had to resort to calling me copier and cheater who use trivial gimmicks to win. So I have to go on in details on how I actually do it.
Kittysan2009-10-19T22:08:04Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/720773This week's forum is a total ripoff.
This is completely off-topic. But it’s my own thread. And it’s me who is unfairly accused. I don’t feel like starting a new thread just for it. So please bear with it, or skip this post otherwise.

You’re also a hypocrite.

You claim to be good at submitting styles, but most of your styles are near carbon copies of styles that were already doing well for several days before mysteriously getting a surge of downvotes right before the forum gets posted.

...

So, I’m both a sore loser and a hypocritical plagiarist? Now I’m very disappointed. I don’t expect this to come from someone like you. And what the hell is mysteriously downvoted? Are you implying that I commit voting fraud, as well?

I don’t know what do you mean by “most” of my style. As far as I can remember, I have won in style design only 6 times. There were TravelAnimosity (June 28) and RAWR (July 26). Then recently I hit a streak AskThieves, Outside, PeTV, and Nientendö, missing only Fashion Fascists. (Seven wins, if you count BattleThreadz Lamebait.) I don’t think you can remember the first two wins of mine, so I’m assuming you are pissed off because of my most recent wins.

And every one of them, I submitted early. PeTV and Nientendö in particular gained huge leads on all competitors from start to finish. For PeTV, I consider them my masterpiece. It won in a landslide. For Nientendö, I never really like it, because the logo that narrowly lost was mine (hence the bitter style name “Seriously, the other loger [sic] is better.” ) I submitted the style and left it there in disgust. Turned out it won.

For the other two, I still submitted them early. And as you said, doing well for some time before being voted down. What do I do? I resubmit. I already know the colors used, I just tweaked some little things and submitted again, and won. For example, when the style Brave New World for Outside didn’t do well enough, I changed a few things and submitted it as Brave New World Redux, which won.

So, as you can see, your accusation of “most” of my style are carbon copies are false. If I was plagiarizing anyone, it was myself. And I believe there is no rule against submitting more than one styles, or submitting styles with a few minor differences from others.

As for my “secret” for successful design? This:

Shii Posted:

You do realize that there’s basically one way to win Forum Style, and that’s to copy the colors in the logo as closely as possible, and that typically results in many very similar forum styles.

It’s intuitive, really. The style must match the logo. You can’t pick an entirely different set of colors and hope to win. Because it usually turns out very ugly (unless you’re a damn good artist who can get away with that.)

So how do I pick the right colors? With GIMP. Its color picker tool can show color code in RGB format (i.e. 000000 – FFFFFF) which is, of course, perfect to use in ForumBuildr style submission. I downloaded GIMP to use in designing logo and topic icons for Web 1.0 Veterans in August. Before that, only two of my styles won. None of them required precise color selection. RAWR consisted of primary colors: black, white, and red, which is very easy to select. And TravelAnimosity used an entirely different set of colors (and yes, I could get away with that, and I consider it another of my masterpiece.) With help from GIMP’s color picker, I can get the exact colors, leading to my recent winning streaks.

This method doesn’t always work, though. In a logo with few primary colors, it can get boring quickly. That’s why my styles for Doprah’s Book Cult, Pushy Parents, and Fashion Fascists didn’t win. The winning styles are from people who use their own imaginations and add/tweak colors around so they aren’t too repetitive.

mterek Posted:

This is true, but it doesn’t explain why one of several seemingly generic styles gets a lot of votes at the end, netting Kitty-san 4/5 past style wins. Clearly, people must place huge value on Arial font and slightly enlarged margins, because honestly such dramatic changes don’t really impress me that much.

The keyword is seemingly generic. You see, when styles are so similar (forced by colors of the logo), it’s minor details that count. You think dramatic changes are unnecessary, because default font and margins are good enough. Voters, on the other hand, see them as boring. Hell, I’ve seen people complaining about how tables are always 600 pixels wide, center aligned, even though they look best that way (and I, for one, will not going to change it, no matter how repetitive it is.)

And you want to know my secret criteria on how to choose font and margins? Easy, there are three fonts. Since Courier has a very limited use, we actually has two. What’s their difference? Arial is tall and thin, Verdana is short and wide. If the forum logo uses tall and thin texts, I switch to Arial. If texts are short and wide, I leave the font at Verdana. Simple as that. Of course, if the logo itself uses either of these fonts, it is an obvious choice to use in the design as well. For Courier, I once tried using it in Outside, because the logo itself used it. Turned out, Courier-font-using Brave New World was voted down. So I switched to Arial, which the logo also used (Arial Black, or maybe Narrow Condensed), resubmitted with exact same colors as Brave New World Redux, and won.

For margins, there are no rule at all. I choose what looks best. Design is art, after all. For my 6 winning styles, two have body margins, one have body and logo margins, and the other three have none. Also, half of them use Arial fonts, the rest use the default Verdana. So your accusation of me using Arial and margins as a gimmick to win is also false.

I design all of my styles with painstaking attention to details, with correct colors, font, and margin, to create the best-looking forum, at least to me. I never rush anything. Even the Nientendö one, which I hate, I took time to pick the right colors, from a non-uniformed background with hundreds of color shades. That’s my commitment to design. If there is no way for me to top the existing designs (which is rare, because now I always submit quickly) I don’t submit and vote for it instead. Sometimes people agree with me and vote for me. Sometimes they don’t. I can live with that.

In the end, mterek, it’s you who’s not creative enough. It’s you who doesn’t care for minor details. It’s you who doesn’t change things from default. That’s why you lose. Now that I’ve told you my secrets, either follow it or devise a way to counter it. And stop complaining and accusing already.

Sorry for the thread derailment. Now you can resume discussing about this week’s entry and how to fix it.
Kittysan2009-10-19T21:48:37Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/720705This week's forum is a total ripoff.

man-man Posted:

I came across the HTDTE page, and the rest of the guy’s website, and found it freaking hilarious. I didn’t really expect the sub to win to be honest, so I wasn’t expecting this to come up. If it offends you that I saw something awesome and wanted to maybe make some buildr jokes about it then… well I don’t even know what recourse there is at this point. My sincerest apologies if I’ve pissed off the plagiarism police.

I haven’t gotten around to submitting anything yet (end time is 2am here, I’m busy all morning and most of the afternoon… could be this evening before I’ve got any time to make with the funny). I don’t know how people are so quick, but I was watching the scores last night – mine was in a very close 2nd/tied for first (at one point in a 3-way tie for first) for a fair while before the end, and took the lead with a couple hours to go. Anyone obsessively watching buildr to get their subs in quickly would have had some time to at least realise that Illuminati Job Board wasn’t a sure thing and start thinking.

I’m surprised at how man-man handle this, which is pretty well. And yes, the HTDTE page is hilarious. Still, it doesn’t mean someone can submit that idea as his own, let alone win it.

As for suspiciously quick submissions, if those aren’t yours (and I believe the admins can verify that,) then fine. Those logos are low quality ones which can be patched up within 30 minutes or less anyway. I’m sorry for directing my suspicion of foul play at you. After ghax’s one-man alt abuse, it’s easy to believe only one person is responsible for all the wrong things that happen.

Now if we’re going to fix this, apart from changing the description, the forum name, International Earth Destruction Advisory Board, must be changed as well. Because that too, was written by Mr.Sam Hughes. Even the word “Geocide” was thought up by him.

I offer another solution, that is contacting Mr.Hughes himself, asking if he’s okay for ForumWarz to expand upon his joke. Who knows? This could benefit both parties involved. It won’t hurt to try, will it?
Kittysan2009-10-19T18:32:33Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/720373This week's forum is a total ripoff.

Skyman747 Posted:
