forumbuildr has become my favorite part of the game so far, it’s a great friggin idea.
Hamelin2008-01-07T15:23:45Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/21220ForumBuildr v2.0 Beta
Well, then, might as well add a rating for the new avatars too, it’ll cut down on massive glut.

Maybe only accept the top voted dozen or so a week in addition to limiting the number of avatars each user can submit?
Hamelin2008-01-03T16:48:47Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/21213ForumBuildr v2.0 Beta
I think it’s the one with all the random numbers making fun of those OMG I KNOW YOUR IP signatures. They’re not line breaking because there’s no space between them.

Phlegmatic Posted:

anyway we need an interface to add new avatars, we can’t just rely on yours forever
Thing about that is there’d have to be some sort of approval process, to weed out copyrighted content.
Hamelin2008-01-03T13:16:49Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/21160ForumBuildr v2.0 Beta
I noticed the preview doesn’t display indices of wildcards correctly. I think it displays it correctly after it’s posted but I’m not quite sure.

Also, could you guys add a way for me to add s to the end of wildcards? any extra letter messes them up and I need plurals sometimes. I’ve been doing it cheaply by adding ’s to the end, since the apostrophe doesn’t screw with the wildcard, but it’d be nice to do it right.

A way to view my submissions would be nice too, and I agree that ratings shouldn’t show up until after you vote on something. A preexisting high or low score can skew the way someone votes I think.
Hamelin2008-01-02T12:22:39Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/21032Dumb Questions
12, I haven’t been using mine (cause I’m lazy and there’s nothing new to do) and they cap there.
Hamelin2007-12-27T23:25:22Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/21021Suggestion: Thread consistency
Forumbuildr is going to have a thing where we create the posts, it hasn’t even been a week since it came out and you’re already complaining about wanting a feature that will be here in a few days.

Dec 19th: Update

I demoed the work-in-progress version of the forum building application to the team on Monday and they loved it. A lot of the hard work is done, but there’s still some small problems to solve before I’ll throw it out for you guys to use.

Here’s a screenshot of the current version:

What you’re looking at is the main page of the app, which we’re currently calling ForumBuildr v2.0 BETA.

In the right column, you can see ideas for next week’s build. The numbers in blue are those that you’ve already voted on. The yellow one has controls for you to vote it up or down.

At the end of the week, the highest voted idea will automatically be chosen, then it appears in the left column as shown as the one everyone works on for the week. As you can see, there are three buttons which lead to sub pages, where you can vote on those elements and add your own.

When you’re submitting material to make up the forum you’re encouraged to “Madlib” it. In other words, replace certain words with variables that are later replaced with a random word. The editor looks like this:

You are given a big text area to add content. If you put a code to insert a random word (example: @species) the site will do a random replacement before it’s shown.

There’s a lot of text explaining this, a search for words and a set of inspirations on the right. There are other fun codes you can use for generating random numbers and emoticons and stuff too.

We’ll be launching with about 100 random word types for you to use and will be adding more as time goes on.

As for the release date, I wanted to put it out this week, but I’ve got some XMAS parties and stuff coming up. The weekend or early next week is seeming more likely to me now for the first version

Hamelin2007-12-27T11:30:08Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/20997Frugality question.
It shouldn’t be too hard to if someone spends a single stat point reset to figure it out.
Hamelin2007-12-25T11:50:02Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/20996ForumBuildr v2.0 Beta
I have a feeling in the future there’ll be lots of pages of suggestions to go through, so perhaps we could get some sort of widget (or something) that, as an option, could be placed on the character pane underneath the status boxes that displays a random forum suggestion that we haven’t voted on, and the option to vote it up or down?
Hamelin2007-12-25T11:47:49Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/20945What do you want for Christmas?
I would like to go a day without bashing my foot into something.

A few people have gotten the 11 point ending.
I have to say, the parser isn’t the greatest here, usually there are different messages for doing commands wrong than an endless stream of “Sorry, I don’t understand that command.”

It looks like instead of using a real parser you just made certain responses elicit responses depending on what room you’re in, is this correct?

I think this because there aren’t any use
on commands, it’s all just some form of use
.

Could you at least make <get>
commands say “There is no
here, or something?

You sure know your stuff! Yeah, this is something we basically threw together to see if we could create a simple, working Ruby-based text adventure. It needs some beefing up, and the next version will probably be a little more “full featured.”
Well, the good thing about writing up a better parsing engine is that once you do it, you’re pretty much set for anything you could possibly want to do with a game like this.

I can’t for the life of me figure out the better ending though, the dickshot ending definitely isn’t it. What awfully obscure command did you write into this damn thing?
Hamelin2007-11-18T12:19:21Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/16984Tomorow's Update (and Contest!): The Unifinished Mission of Episode 1That’s what I was saying, I’ve been conditioned by years of infocom games to never type something as simple as ”unlock door.”

It’s just good form to say “use key on door” or “unlock door with key.”

Also, I like how typing pwn gets you “There are no threads in this room.”
Hamelin2007-11-18T12:09:17Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/16980Tomorow's Update (and Contest!): The Unifinished Mission of Episode 1
So does dance.
Hamelin2007-11-18T12:03:39Ztag:www.forumwarz.com,2007-10-31:DiscussionPost/16975Tomorow's Update (and Contest!): The Unifinished Mission of Episode 1
I have to say, the parser isn’t the greatest here, usually there are different messages for doing commands wrong than an endless stream of “Sorry, I don’t understand that command.”
