Top Bracket Dom Vs. Lower Bracket DomWhen I’m in the top bracket I do sometimes feel that I’m just waiting to drop down to a bracket where I can actually medal again… (view post) |

Dom theme idea - blindmans bluffI think this is a great idea for a Theme Week.
Yes, it takes some of the tactics out of the way you use cards, but that just highlights the importance of doing well in every discipline (including carding) to make sure that you end up with a good stack of scoops.
It would also be interesting in the fairly high brackets where there are lots of people trying to medal but where ties are allowed. Do you trust someone enough to try for a tie? Do you try to form semi-alliances with other players or other clans so that one of you goes for minimum scoops while the other goes for fave flavour? (view post) |

I just voted on 10 pages of forum submissions.plk Posted:
I agree with this.
I get +2 pretty much every week and it takes away from the sense of achievement and the challenge. I don’t know how the score increase is calculated, but if they’re going to keep the values as they are, with only -2, -1, 0, +1 and +2 available then they should make the difficulty of getting +2 scale with the score so that once it becomes harder to raise your score the higher it gets.
If the difficulty of increasing your score changed then this would create the same virtual cap on submissions as plk suggests. (view post) |

Hey, I didn't post that!!!Exactly the same thing happened to me this week – I had two gibberish posts in my name already on the board when I started my round of dom. I have no idea where they came from. (view post) |

If you’re going to post something that condescending, you should probably check your facts first. The game’s creators have already said that they have intentionally modified the rules of Blackjack because they wanted to move the odds in favour of Gamblebot.
It has been speculated (by people who have every bit as much of an idea about how randomness works as you do) that this has been done by changing the odds of Gamblebot’s second card being the most useful one.
As a keen gambler, I’m offended by this concept. If they want to modify the payout, they should do so by changing the reward for winning, not by moving away from the the fact that Blackjack is meant to be played with a deck of 52 normal playing cards (each of which has the same chance of appearing). Most Forums Pwned Leaderboard - Why don't we retire this leaderboard?I’d love to see milestone more milestone Peen introduced, but at fairly large intervals. Maybe every 250 or 500 forums rather than every 100.
And I see absolutely no reason to retire the leaderboard just because Ricket’s dominating it. How about everyone who thinks they’d have a shot if he stops playing clubs together to see if they can offer him enough BP (or some other bribe) to stop pwning forums for a few months and then takes it in turns to achieve the Peen?
(That’s not to say that a leaderboard for daily play is a good idea. It’s just that Ricket’s domination of it is not the problem). (view post) |

Of course I can!
Maybe I didn’t phrase my original post well enough – I should have used a hypothetical person rather than myself. My complaint is not that I can’t do well under the present system. It is that the present system isn’t fair and that this unfairness leads to worse submissions being entered and worse submissions being accepted.
One of my main tactics in winning is to wake up very early on Monday morning and to post as many entries as I can there and then. If I posted 10 ideas on Monday morning, came home from work and posted another 10 ideas that I’d been thinking about during work, then posted another few ideas after I’d been thinking about it during the evening, then pwned some forums or surfed the internet and posted another few ideas with that inspiration then my average submission would probably be better. They might not do quite as well (because the other players who didn’t submit at the earliest possible opportunity, but who had better submissions than me, would have a better chance of beating me), but they would be better. The average quality of the submissions which were actually accepted would also be better.
As I mentioned in my previous post, one of the big problems is the way that the “random” submissions are presented to voters who aren’t going to vote on the entire list. The ones which already have higher scores seem to be presented more often, which gives them an unfair advantage.
I’m looking at my submission list right now and at two entries in the same catagory. One has a score of 14 (14 upvotes and 0 downvotes) and the other, which I think is funnier, has a score of 8 (from 9 upvotes and 1 downvote). I can pretty much guarantee that the first one will end the week on a higher score than the second, even though I only submitted these entries 14 or so hours ago. This is because many more people will get a chance to vote on the first one, so even if 10% of them vote it down and every single remaining person upvotes the second one, the first one will still win.
Now it could be that I’m wrong and that the first entry is actually funnier. But the way that the voting is set up means that the first one has a higher chance of being included in the final build even if I’m right and it’s less funny. Worse, it has a MUCH higher chance of being included in the final build than a significantly funnier entry that is submitted later this evening, less than 24 hours after the new buildr week has stared.
In summary – I’m not suffering from the present system. That doesn’t mean that it couldn’t be improved. And the way that “random” submissions are presented to voter needs to be changed more urgently than the issue of rollover time. (view post) |

Forumbuildr rollover timeI agree with the OP.
By the time I log in on Monday morning to submit some stuff to Forumbuildr, the top entries are already on +10 or even +15. If my submissions are very slightly better than those, they’ll still finish the week on a lower score.
This is especially true because of the rather bizarre “random” way that entries are shown to future voters – that entry which is already on +15 is more likely to be shown to potential voters than mine, which makes it easier for it to get even more upvotes. (view post) |

Pictures in buildrI find pictures to be very lazy, especially when they’re clearly ripped off from another source.
I usually downvote pictures unless they’re really good or look like they might be original. I always downvote them if I’ve seen the pictures before (like half of the lazy pictures which were posted on the Engrish forum and which first appeared in my inbox about 8 years ago). (view post) |

Can we please move dom round end to the weekend? Please remember that those players with jobs and social lives often won’t be able to play on Friday and Saturday evenings. Those are the only days I can go out drinking without worrying that I’ve got work the next day.
The more important measure would be to change the times around so that it doesn’t always fall at such an anti-social hour for European players. At the moment, American players are at a huge advantage when the dom ending falls in the middle of the evening while European players would have to stay up until 2:00 or 3:00 AM (or later, the further East you go) to have any chance of playing on an even footing.
I very much liked the week when dom had a random ending time. How about doing that a little more regularly? (view post) |
